An NHL regular season is 6-months long, it’s a marathon not a sprint, the lack of patience is appalling

He's not skating as fast this season, might have some lower body injury, but that doesn't excuse his poor decision making.

The way I see it, he's also totally trying to prove he's better then Hutson instead of playing his game. Never a good choice.

Not sure they play man to man at center ice. Not sure Guhle should come across the ice to the same side of the ice Matheson is on to tell him that, while the Sabres are in the middle of a line change. Not that Primeau was strong on the partial break that resulted in a weak backhand.

You can clearly see Guhle tag his man from their zone, he stuck with him, Matheson got confused, because of course that's what he does, and didn't know where he was going.

Could be. But the other team was on a line change. Not sure that's what Guhle was supposed to do that on that play. I can't assume that because Guhle is the better defender it wasn't his fault. Guhle also makes mistakes.

You should watch the NHL simulation of the goal (it's the Peterka's goal in the 3rd) which shows what happens on Guhle's side of the ice and you can see that the player Guhle is covering his closer to the Habs blue line than Matheson is when he cut across.

This guy is Jeff Petry 2.0, slightly better, and also better at keeping the puck in at the blueline. Everything else is pretty identical.

Petry’s game tanked whenever he had to fill TOI during Webers absences - he was best when used as a 2nd pairing Dman.

Unfortunately, Matheson doesn’t have a Weber on the 1st pairing providing protection as Petry had the luxury of and is improperly seated having to provide 25TOI 1st pairing D role

Perhaps if things goes south in Calgary we could find a way to organize a trade between Weeger and Matheson. Calgary have too many right shot dman and some are playing left. He would be a stabilizing force on our D. Pair him with a guy like Ghule and Keep Savard till Reinbacher is ready. There might be other similar options. I was hoping they would go for Pesce this summer but they did not. Experience on our blue line would definitely help guys like Ghule and Hutson reach there full potential.

I do not dislike Matheson, but I would prefer we develop Ghule on the left side ... just my 2 cents.

Matheson should be playing 19-20 TOI per game on the 2nd pair as Petry did during his most effective days as a Hab

Hutson and Guhle plays more at EV than Matheson does...he still play too much, but Hutson/Guhle are already eating a lots of minutes and the issue is that MSL basically roll 3.5 Ds instead of 6.

Meanwhile Marty has just about ruined Arber to a point where he's afraid to make a mistake.If your not going to hold some players accountable for their horrible play you will eventually lose the room which is what I think is happening.Aside from some nice individual plays in the 7-5 win in buffalo collectively the game was a "NORMAL" coaches nightmare.This is Ducharme all over again but then again this is the same management team that kept him in place for six months after they took over "while they figured it all out" ....no worries Kent says were going to fix this internally .
