Mike Babcock would probably be the perfect coach for this team now.

Just saying.

Take your personal opinions out of the scenario.

Team now has a great mix of skill, grit, size and compete. Essentially what he was preaching and begging for for years and butted heads with Dubas all the time about. He would love this team now.

Wonder what he's thinking.

food for thought.

In my best Jack Nicholson voice...
"I'd rather stick needles in my eyes".

As for what he's thinking right now, probably something like "Geez if only I wasn't such a d!ck to guys like Marner and Spezza and countless others, maybe I'd be able to get a gig somewhere".

I would agree with you OP; here is hoping Keefe adapts and does not force the grit guys to play softass hockey

this team needs to gel and gotta find the grit, perseverance, attention to detail, no fancy BS and complete focus on a mission -> i.e. Stanley Cup

I wonder who Marner would tell him is the least "hard working" on this roster.
Or maybe Babcock would ask one of the newer rookies for that.

Babcocks Leafs line up

Bunting-Matthews-Accari
Simmonds-Tavares-Marner
Hunt-O'Reilly-Nyalnder
Kerfoot-Lafferty-Clifford
Babs likes hard working two way players not "fighters". He would love Kampf. I don't think he would like Clifford or Simmonds and I'm not sure what kind of player Hunt is. Babcock probably would be molding mcmann into his new Hyman/Cleary.

This a teams similar to the one he had that finished with 105 points and lost in 7 games to Boston. When Babcock asked Dubas for more players that are hard to play against then play a big and heavy game those were the players Dubas removed and not added.

Players like Hyman, Komarov, Kadri, Martin, Polak etc

Now those players are Bunting, O'Reilly, Accairi, Lafferty and Schenn etc.

You know Dubas has done a complete 180, on his "speed and skill" build belief, because he has aready added 6 new pieces (= 1/3 rd of a roster of 18 skaters) and he still might not be done clearing out softer players, for new ones.

So you can voice your personal opinion, but everyone else has to leave theirs at the door? Sweet jebus.

I think I could name 40+ coaches I'd rather have for this team instead of Mike Babcock.

Start with every active NHL coach, aside from Eakins, and then I only need to come up with about 10 more names. Shouldn't be too difficult. If I can research with google, I'd be able to name 100.

Who wouldn't love watching the stretch pass be picked off by Tampa defenders for 7 games
With an absolute refusal to adapt because his ego thinks all his ideas were great an it’s going to start working any minute.
I would also look forward to our 2 top lines playing 12-14 minutes in game 7 because he insists on line matching and Cooper has figured this out and keeps throwing out his bottom 2 lines cause it keeps our top 2 lines off the ice.

Babs was an extremely intelligent man but his rigid refusal to adapt and his treatment of people around him have rightly ended his career.

If Babcock wanted grit and compete in his lineup why did he scratch Martin for a good chunk of the 17-18 season (including the playoffs) when he brought all of those attributes and was beloved in the room? The man was good enough to be part of a great fourth line on the Islanders so what was the issue here?

Babs was good in his day but is absolutely terrible today. It happens to a lot of coaches, I'm still as surprised as most with how Daryl Sutter was a wizard last season but this season all of his ugly tendancies have reared their heads and Calgary is suffering bad for it.
