Mike Babcock would probably be the perfect coach for this team now.

How can you look at Keefe and not think he is a top tier coach. This fanbase I swear

They actually touched on Babcock on air, said this is the team he always wanted. You’ll never have a calm discussion here, but it’s so true on one level, his obvious personality flaws aside.

The above has nothing to do with Keefe either, people are so triggered here lol.

Just saying.

Take your personal opinions out of the scenario.

Team now has a great mix of skill, grit, size and compete. Essentially what he was preaching and begging for for years and butted heads with Dubas all the time about. He would love this team now.

Wonder what he's thinking.

food for thought.
If you don't have Lidstrom on your team then Babcock isn't a good coach.

Jeezus

Keefe has the best winning % of any coach in modern history and has had sulky oft injured awful in big games Andersen and Jack Campbell as his playoff goalies.

The Leafs literally went from awful to great defensively the minute he took over.

What a strange thread.

I don't think half of our fanbase even watch games. And if they do they certainly don't understand what they see

Hard to believe the "perfect coach" for a team trying to compete isn't even employed in the NHL. The only time Babcock looked perfectly qualified in his time here was when they finished last in the league

Well Babcock partly isn’t employed because Toronto is writing him a FAT cheque to not do anything.

Babcock is an asshole but he’s a good detailed orientated coach. Considering the defensive core we had under him, we had some decent years.

Keefe has been solid for our group

Yes, this team is something he wanted, but that analysis tends to forget Nylander, Marner and Matthews have made gigantic strides learning and being coached under...Sheldon Keefe.

Keefe is a better coach currently then Mike Babcock. People really need to move on. It has been years. He is gone and not coming back.
His contract is up this summer, why not give him a similar one, then play it by ear and keep him for a year.

Keefes contract isn't up this summer. I am not sure why people care so much about the contracts of our coaching staff and front office. There has never been any evidence that it matters...at all. I mean we shit canned Babcock with like 5 years and tens on millions left on the deal lol

Wait for it……Babcock’s is….

Wonder what Justin Abdelkader is doing these days?

Babcock loved his 5th and 6th liners.

I would agree with you OP; here is hoping Keefe adapts and does not force the grit guys to play softass hockey

this team needs to gel and gotta find the grit, perseverance, attention to detail, no fancy BS and complete focus on a mission -> i.e. Stanley Cup

#NoExcuses

What about Keefe makes you think he likes soft hockey? Was it him being a dirtbag when playing? The fact he keeps dressing washed up Simmonds? What is it?

Aren't we still paying him?

Double that $$$ for Babcock not to coach.

I would go with Bruce Cassidy I always liked his coaching style and answers/reasoning during press conferences. Plus he knows Boston well, might be nice to have him vs Boston for 2nd round.

Personal opinions aside, while there are certainly some more "Babcock" type players on the roster, he also was like oil and water with a lot of the room, especially the core guys. Which doesn't strike me as a ideal stable situation for a team trying to go deep, where you need coach and players to be in sync. He also clearly disliked guys in the current front office, from Dubas' to Spezza.

Regardless of how one feels about Babcock, and folks can go back and forth about individual decisions he made, the bridge was burned for good with the Leafs

If Babcock wanted grit and compete in his lineup why did he scratch Martin for a good chunk of the 17-18 season (including the playoffs) when he brought all of those attributes and was beloved in the room? The man was good enough to be part of a great fourth line on the Islanders so what was the issue here?
Honestly...my guess would be that he was too friendly with Mitch and AM. He was probably afraid of Martin telling the kids that Babs was full of hot air and that other coaches were better. Babs had a way of wanting only a certain type of veteran (the type that feeds his family) and not others (that let their families starve). I guess Martin's kids go to Boomer Esiason's house for food when they need it.
