Mike Babcock would probably be the perfect coach for this team now.

Just saying.

Take your personal opinions out of the scenario.

Team now has a great mix of skill, grit, size and compete. Essentially what he was preaching and begging for for years and butted heads with Dubas all the time about. He would love this team now.

Wonder what he's thinking.

food for thought.
And what exactly are we doing here then?

Also I'm sure any coach would love to coach this team right now. We'll see how they are on the ice but on paper this is the strongest lineup the Leafs have iced in a long time.

He is so in demand Leafs would probably have to overpay him ... :biglaugh:

He is being paid and still under contract to the Leafs right now as their paying him "not work right now". :wg:

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Babcock is getting paid a historic amount of money for a NHL head coach.

This is the single largest contract ever handed out to a NHL head coach by a whole heck of a lot. With an annual average of $6.25 million,

When they fired him in 2018 he had 5 years @ $6.25 mil annually guaranteed left on his deal with a no compete clause that prevents him from working for another team while collecting his full Leafs salary.

Why work when someone if paying you $6.25 mil (almost what the Leafs are paying Nylander) to do nothing but sit at home and watch games on TV?

PS. Now I wouldn't want him back again, but he is a far better coach than Keefe is. IMO

If say Babs wasn’t our coach and it was another team who hired and fired him due to all the stuff he did like making rookie chooses and disrespecting vet…..
I still won’t think Babs is a good option for this team.
Maybe Bruce is a better coach for this group.

Babcock is a horrible coach that was exposed when he took over the leafs job. This year we can properly judge Keefes work now that he has a proper supporting cast.

no

this idiot would play bunting ror lafferty more minutes than matty and willy with the team down 1.

f*** that dude and his asinine strategies.

Terrible, braindead coach playing Marleau more than Matthews. Puts Marleau and Mitch out on a defensive zone, pk face off against Bergeron in a game 7 and bruins score and the comeback is on its way. Awful, awful terrible coach. Much worse than Keefe.

Babcock made a putrid team finish last while being respectable in shot attempts and chance attempts. The moment he had any talent, the team refuses to play for him because he was a shit coach that underused his best players and forced them to play a style that made no sense. He tried to get Canada, a team with literal superstars on the 4th line to play to win 1-0 and "grind it out".

He would not be a good coach for this team. He'd still be shit.

He might have been a stepping stone to respectability, but yeah, he got overpaid.

He road the coattails of Scotty's team in Detroit, but like Lamoriello once their franchise defensemen Stevens/Niedermayer/Lidstrom faded away their big game wins ceased.

Leafs and perhaps today's society in coaching has passed him by.

Who wouldn't love watching the stretch pass be picked off by Tampa defenders for 7 games
Exactly. I mean Keefe has to prove it in the playoffs too but just systems based, it's not even close whose a better fit.

I wonder who Marner would tell him is the least "hard working" on this roster.
Or maybe Babcock would ask one of the newer rookies for that.
At the very least, with the roster we have now, he'd have a very difficult time finding a player who isn't "hard working". But, a hard no from me. I despised the man.

In the ninth and lowest level of Dante's Inferno he'd be next to Brutus, Cassius, and Judas. For those not immersed in Classical Literature, the lowest level was reserved for betrayers.

Exactly why you wouldn’t want Babcock as a coach. For all his rich vocabularies and word salad presser’s, ‘humble’ certainly wasn’t one of them.
