Granlund is a better and younger 3C than Carter. Scored 64 points last year. Value is okay...but this can't be the big move, can it?
I mean, the zone starts he got to produce like that is basically pens top 6 material. You really think he's getting that on the Pens? They got him because he can dish the puck. For a bottom 6 that can't create, he can. But given that the bottom 6 usage is literally the opposite of what he's been used to is going to be interesting.

He is better on the wing, he's never been good at face offs and he's pretty soft (will get pushed around with the Pens and the way they're played). I mean I would like to hope for something different out of him but let's be real here - they're getting him to get offense out of the third line which will likely be: Granlund, Carter, Heinen or Heinen, Carter, Granlund

This can't end well.

The second was better to keep and I used to be a fan of Granlund on the Wild and loved the duo of Zuck and MG. But at this stage? Yeah I don't know.

That says as much about Hynes as it does Granlund, but it’s encouraging.

I think the plan is spread the offense across 3 lines. Couldn’t do that before. But this is another guy that’ll probably get destroyed in the playoffs.
Have to also remember - his 64pts last season was also under Hynes.

He's a career 50ish pt guy. If he's playing on the third line, that's an epic waste of his talents.

I'd roll:

Guentzel, Crosby, Rakell
Zucker, Malkin, Granlund
O'Connor, Carter, Rust
Heinen, Poehling, Archibald

That would be a decent line up.

Yeah, this is spot on. Granlund is a really nice target as a playmaking 2nd line winger, especially with the chemistry he has shown with Zucker in the past. But they're not going to use him like that, making acquiring him stupid.

I dislike the trade to begin with due to no retention on the deal, but it's only going to get worse when they misuse him.

His face-off percentage is 43 and he is -16 this season. Watch Sullivan play him as shutdown center, lol.

And it's sad really. The loyalty to Rust is going to sink this risk move and waste a second. Like the line up I posted above, logically he's a better bet for that second line given his entire career of being a damn good puck distributor that has played at a selke level for a few years early in his career.

Rust in an ideal situation would be fantastic with Doc and Poehling but we know carter has that 3c on lock which just isn't right.

Granlund will make the third line better but he can can make the second line even better and we might not see that because of favouritism and loyalty to names vs production and fit.

Guentzel, Crosby, Rakell
Zucker, Malkin, Granlund
O'Connor, Carter, Rust
Heinen, Poehling, Archibald

It's odd to move so much cap and this is likely the most they'll move maybe. I mean this can't be it right? I like MG but knowing how he'll be used kind of is a bummer.

Truly a terrible a trade. We should be getting a pick to take him. Hextall is awful.

Trade a 2nd for a terrible defensive pass first winger who relies on PP production to put up points. Now unless Crosby is retiring, i doubt he has a spot on the #1 PP. So what the hell is the point of Granlund?
Tell me you know nothing about the player without telling me...

Took a 3 hour nap and woke up to this. Must've slipped into an alternate timeline, wtf is this.

I don't think Granlund has negative value. But he just doesn't fit this team.

Only 12 of Granlunds 36 points are on the PP this year. Idk if PP specialist is a fair tag, but I have hardly watched the Preds this year.
Been a wild admirer since they entered the league, he’s a fantastic player. One of the few true playmakers that is fairly solid at both ends that’s still around. The only issue I have is he’ll likely be tasked with trying to make Heinen and Carter look like NHL’ers right now.
