I've definitely seen some hesitancy online about buying Xbox games in fear of them ending up on Game Pass and feeling like you wasted money.

With that being said, it's hard to pinpoint one specific reason some of these games are skipping Xbox. Especially when it comes to Square Enix who is pretty incompetent.

I really want Resident Evil 4 remake. But the game launches for $80CAD + tax, in a buggy state. Unless it's a game I literally will not wait to try (Hogwarts Legacy, Tears of the Kingdom, for example), I'm gonna wait. I have enough games on the backlog, by the time I'd have some time, I could probably get RE4 at 50% off and in a much better state.

Again, this is my reasoning. I know there are some people with the "wait til Game Pass" mentality
I saw Richard Leadbetter say on the podcast Digital Foundry podcast that he’s seen industry sales numbers that the public doesn’t have access to, and that Xbox game sales are down like 90% this console generation. I’ll have to look up the actual portion of the podcasts but I think sales are the main reason. Devs are just not interested in being on Xbox unless it’s a gamepass title.

That surprisingly sounds close to my own history. I haven't bought nearly as much as I did on the 360.

Games aren't as good as they used to be. Drastically less local games I can play with my wife (I've bought more on Switch just to play with her). And when I do buy a game, I tend to play it for awhile. Or I don't even have to pay, Apex is free, Call of Duty is free, I played Overwatch for 5 years before I gave up on 2.

No time for lots of games, not enough games that fit into my new lifestyle and not enough games that interest me either.

It's a bizarre generation for gaming. At least for me.

Side note, I remember reading his game reviews on British games magazines that were available in Finland in the early 90's, the likes of Computer & Video Games and Mean Machines and Mean Machines Sega. He joined CVG at the age of 18(!).

I would be prepared for Starfield to launch on Xbox with only a 30 FPS mode and no 60 FPS update
This sounds unfinished, but I guess Microsoft has to get stuff out the door for their gamepass pipeline since they haven't gotten a AAA game out since Halo Infinite outside of the ports of Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo. I expected this to happen at some point this generation for both Sony and Microsoft but not this early on in the console's lifecycle as these are MS's first true next gen exclusives that people who bought a Series console at launch have been waiting 2 and a half years for.

i actually think Redfall going 30fps may save Starfield from going 30fps. The black lash for this is pretty big.
Maybe, but I think they are highly unlikely to push that game back anymore. You would hope they atleast patch it in like this, but I have a hard time MS delaying their flagship game anymore than they already have.

That engine they’re using is ancient and unoptimized. I’d hold out hope for a stable 30 fps but 60 feels like a pipe dream. Redfalls trailers actually were 60fps, it feels like it’s within reach at some point with a patch. The announcement trailer for Starfield wasn’t even close to 30fps.

That and Xbox needs a massive W right now (see above). They need to delay and get the best game out. Xbox used to have a brand new game at console launch that showed off the power of their console. They have yet to do that with X|S.

yeah, Redfall is made in Unreal 5, it does make me curious about what options we will get with Jedi Survivor which I'm pretty sure is the first major AAA Unreal 5 release.

I'm super excited for Redfall, but no 60 fps is tough. I may try it at 30 and see how it feels. If I don't like it, I'll just wait a bit for the patch. It'd be nice if we knew WHEN.

I still think it will be a great game. Arkane is too good at what they do.

We’ll see. I’d be shocked if after this outrage they don’t launch their flagship game in 60fps. If it’s not looking like it’ll be ready for that mode at launch right now, call up some of your 20-whatever studios to help with last minute optimization.

I think it’s expecting blood from a stone. Put it this way. If it comes out at a locked 30 fps, that’ll be the best a Bethesda developed games ever run at release.

I thought they said Starfield is on a new engine?
I believe it's an updated version of their Creation Engine. Given how familiar the mod community is with Creation, and how Bethesda basically relies on the mod community to fix their games, I highly doubt they'd walk away from it.

I don’t disagree with you but buggy/unfinished games at launch are the industry norm now.

Hi-Fi Rush devs say the game did not sell enough. I dont know what they were expecting. If you're going to launch on gamepass you should expect zero sales. Any sales at all should be considered a bonus. I'm wondering how this type of occurence is going to affect Elder Scrolls development when the Starfield sales numbers come in. I think Gamepass is eventually going to have to go the EA route, different price tiers for AAA titles.
