I've been trying out my free trial of XBOX game pass on PC and I have to admit it's pretty fantastic. It's actually making me think of going with it instead of buying games for 2023, but I don't I'm quite there yet. Xcloud finally seems like a legitimate product for streaming too.

Been content waiting for Elden Ring to go on sale. Jump on it for $42 or wait for $30 in a year?
Have you played any other From Software game? I hadn't played much before this year, I tried out Seikro, Bloodborne, and then Elden Ring and I can confirm that I am not a From fan, wish I didn't waste 100 dollars in doing so but whatever lol

For me the question is always "what is going on right now"?

If you're searching for a new game, pull the trigger. It's fantastic.

If you've got lots to play, wait. It'll still be great next year

Elden Ring, Saints Row, and Need For Speed Unbound are all discounted quite a bit right now and all are on my wishlist. Going to pick one up but still deciding between the three.

Elden Ring is clearly the best game, but I’ve never played the Souls franchise and I’ve read that it’s highly difficult. I’d also prefer to play the PS5 version as a personal preference, but it’s significantly cheaper on Series X right now. Saints Row hasn't reviewed well at all but still looks fun, especially in that $50 range. Unbound looks to be the best NFS entry in years. Thing with that game though, is I’m sure it’ll be on EA Play/Game Pass eventually. Probably a year or so down the road though.

If you’re asking about Elden Ring then you should play Elden Ring. It was my first From Soft game, very difficult, you have to be patient while you learn how to play and fight, but it’s completely worth it. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve had.

I had only played the first Demon's Souls briefly before quitting years ago and was intrigued by all that I had read about Elden Ring, so I picked it up for PS5, gave it about a month and probably 20 or so hours and came to the conclusion it wasn't for me, I didn't have the patience to d the grinding and found it to be difficult to the point that I did not enjoy it. It may be worth a shot at a discounted price, but you will have to figure that out for yourself

As someone who really didn't like the Soulsborne franchise, I was surprised to find I loved Elden Ring.

Yes it is difficult and frustrating at times, but you can just explore a different direction and come back when you are more powerful/skilled.

I absolutely recommend it.

Saints Row was one of those games that was pushed out the door too early and was REALLY buggy. It’s in a much better place now and the story is just silly fun. It’s a great steal if it’s on sale. ,

This. (Elden Ring)

Thanks for the replies, guys! I think I’ll end up going with Elden Ring. $55 CAD seems like a steal, and it sounds like even if it’s really difficult, I can just experience the game at my own pace since it’s open world and I can just explore freely. It’d be hard to pass on a Game of the Year at that price.

Is there no Starfield thread?

Bethesda is hit or miss for me personally.... I find their games have a lot of jank, but they are great at creating deep worlds. I'm really excited to play Starfield.

So I bought it and this is the first time I've ever asked Microsoft for a refund. They were nice enough to grant it after a few hours of play.

It's not for me. As a seasoned gamer but uninitiated FromSoftware player, I found it miserably difficult and completely devoid of direction/guidance.

I was drawn to it because of the accolades and the next-gen console open world. For the latter, I'll settle for AC Valhalla.

That’s a shame. The wonder and exploration is what I loved about ER and probably ruined other open world games for me. I played Far Cry 6 for a little bit after and it was miserable having so many things barfed onto the minimap.

It is an acquired taste. You have to be patient with your tactics and because of that it's a huge consumer of time. That's the biggest knock against the game.

I played FC5 last year and don't know if I can do another anytime soon. Just repeated outpost-clearing with the occasional extreme weapon or stunt vehicle thrown in.
