Without ever threatening to win? I was worried they were gonna win that game Sunday, did you even watch it?

I was never worried they were close to winning. I was worried they were going to get close enough to being competitive that it would make people feel excited or feel like the team is better than they are. Which is exactly what happened.

The team is bad and will not win much at all. I am encouraged that they didn't roll over and die, but we have witnessed the same song and dance for a number of years. Wholly uncompetitive, and when the defense goes into pure prevent, the numbers go up, the score goes up, and the team still loses.

The last GM I was silly enough to buy into was Millen,The last Coach I bought into was schwartz, the last upcoming core I bought into was Suh and the boys. I can't buy into it anymore, I'm broken inside,I'm numb to it all. I hate that because if they ever do win it will happen without me being fully bought in and emotionally invested.

I don't know if anyone else watched it last night but the ESPN 2 broadcast of MNF with the manning brothers was really fun. especially when Russel Wilson joined them for the last hour or so.

I can't believe as Lions fans we're doing this same old new regime dance yet again. Every time it's the same old song and dance of how they play different for this guy, look at the fight they put up, oh how they didn't give. It's game one of the season of a brand new regime with a roster full of scrappy nobody jones they haven't yet to be beaten down mentally and physically from the season and being a Lion. Let's see what happens when they are getting blown out mid way through the year while banged up and playoffs out of the sight.

Not quite. I am pushing 40. There has never been as much internal change as we saw heading into this season. This is not the same old song and dance. Patricia never would have had this team battling to comeback. All of the expected weaknesses were on display but they excelled in others. When was the last time you saw the Lions deploy and effective run game? When was the last time they had a good run game against a good defense? Sewell dominated Nick Bosa. There is going to be bumps but it is quite clear the players buy in. Been awhile since we have seen that. The defense will not be rebuilt in one season. Brad Holmes played a critical role in building the Rams of the last few years.

This is not the same Lions. This is not the same team that drafted a fullback instead of Jim Kelly or Dan Marino. The ghosts of Russ Thomas and Matt Millen are being exorcised.

I don't think it unexpected to not buy in when there is nothing to buy in to. They are very bad with a long way to go before it turns around, even if this coaching staff/GM turn out to be good hires. You'll probably buy back in when they give you a reason to.

They were a touchdown and a two point conversion away from taking it to overtime. I see the win probability tool on Yahoo had SF at >98% the entire second half (this seems a bit off to me).

Anyways, I was trying to have a short description to describe the similarities of games over the last 10 years with this one. Sure, maybe it lacked a bit of the nuance of this one.

Lol they were 2 yards out of the redzone and down a score. This isnt me buying in and saying theyre actually good, just that watching that game the lions were definitely threatening down the stretch.

I dont see that at all. I see a bunch of people saying this is exactly what you want from this team this year. They didnt give up and played a close game with a superbowl contender. Is there people saying theyre good? Thats different then saying they played a good game against a good team

They played a shit game against a good team that stopped trying. The Niners fell into a prevent defense as early as the third quarter when they went up 38-10. The Lions put up over 60% of their yards starting in the mid 3rd quarter after falling behind 38-10. They scored 23 of their 33 points in that same time frame.

That isn’t exclusively tied to a team that didn’t quit. This isn’t because they played a good game. It’s because the Niners rolled out the red carpet for them to make it close. And to the credit of the Lions…they gave enough of a shit to take advantage of it.

Mostert and Verrett suffered season ending injuries in the game. They were just trying to get out of the building without destroying their season at that point.

Well Mostert was out basically as soon as the game started, but yeah towards the end the Niners defense started dropping seemingly every other play. Which is why I can’t give credit to the Lions for playing a good game. I can highlight aspects that were good and suggest there might be more to uncover. But as a whole, that game was disgusting to watch. The defense may very well be last in every statistical category if that game is a glimpse into the future.

Unless Rodgers has quit entirely on the Packers, I don’t see how he doesn’t trip and stumble into 300 yards and multiple touchdowns. Amani Oruwariye is the #1 corner that is supposed to shut down Davante Adams? Yikes.

Oh, nobody has quit on the Packers. And that's the scary part. I think they did their best.

Smart money is on the #1 offense last year refocusing and putting up a bunch of points, but basically no outcome would surprise me at this point. The fun news today is Za'Darius Smith, who was not voted in as a team captain by his peers (despite holding the position previously), is posting about that on social media and acting like a child about it. For example, posted the concept art for a diamond necklace he ordered in the shape of the captain C. So the locker room may have some distractions, as if this off-season wasn't enough.

At least this year, the Lions are supposed to be a bottom-dweller. I actually see nobody claiming that the new regime will make everything right. But Quinn and Patricia both achieved so little that I think that Lions fans are indeed to some kind of relief and cautious hope.

This man is a treasure.

My first thoughts were, having never heard him speak before, "he must be from Louisiana". Nope. California.

Jamaal came up on The Detroit Lions Podcast today for the Green Bay preview. Sounds like he is a solid dude. Tossing the pigskin with kids in the crowd before the game. Always appreciate the guys that are not assholes and acknowledge fans. Especially the kids.

I have been enjoying the College football season, both Michigan and Michigan State look like completely different teams than last year. The other cool thing is this looks like the most vulnerable Ohio has been in a decade, they have issues on both sides of the ball. Should be an interesting season with a lot of fun Saturday’s.

I'm not going to trust Michigan until they actually prove it but they definitely seem a lot better than last year. Corum looks like he will be playing on Sundays to me, this is the best RB room I've seen at Michigan in 20 years.

I'm curious what the rankings will look like this week, so far I think Michigan has had a soft schedule, whereas Sparty has won two on the road, although NW is pretty bleh so far.

Not impressed with tOSU at all, B10 could actually be interesting this year. PSU having a decent SOS win against Auburn.

And go Fresno State, balls. Hung in there with Oregon, beats UCLA in Pasadena. (I took all of one class there for work, but I'll root for them)

Some dude (@Ricelund ???) bet $25 on a 16 game parlay. It's gone really well. If the Lions win tonight, that $25 becomes $726,959.

How stressed are you if you're that guy tonight?

Win or lose tonight I just hope Rodgers continues to struggle after acting like such an asshat preseason. As much as I hated Green Bay growing up at least Favre was likeable. My biggest Suh disappointment is he didn't break that prick in half.

I'm very stressed that I was stupid enough to pick the Lions to win a football game.

If I was making this parlay, I would have taken a slight hit in payout and just take Packers against the moneyline. If I got this far, I would want the highest odds of this working out favorably on Monday night.

imagine making that bet knowing the Lions are the last game of the week and betting on them winning

why would you do that to yourself

Favre is likable from the "aw shucks" southern guy thing he does. He's actually kind of a hard person to like as a human, though. The less you know about him, the better.

Lol In the sports sense, don't wanna see anyone really get injured.

Yea Favre definitely lost some likeability later on when the weirdness started coming out.

Whew, good. Some people are straight serious. Rodgers really brings it out in folks. I'm pretty indifferent to him overall, other than his ball throwing be great.

I wonder what kind of payout theyre offering him right now... if theyre offering you 200 grand right now do you take it or hope the Lions win tonight for 3 quarters of a million?
