If the Leafs sign a free agent today (while everyone can sign him today) and put him on waivers a week later, he probably gets claimed

Super-deep Vegas claims Amadio off waivers from the no-depth Leafs.

Just like the super-deep Habs claimed Brooks off waivers from the no-depth Leafs.

Lol poor no-depth Leafs.

(P.s. Semyonov looked better than both of them in preseason)

It's almost like Dubas and the Leafs have done very well at finding good and efficient depth players that other teams can't seem to find very often.

Would really love to see the number of players that Teams have lost to waivers over the past 3 years or so....

Number of players exposed vs. number of players claimed ratio.

......... I think we are right at the top on that one......

There's a fine line between depth players and fillers. Mikaheyv is a depth player and so is Kase

Amadio and Brooks are fillers. Every team needs fillers due to cap issues and covid to ice teams

We have no good depth. These players being picked up speaks very little of our depth and more that our team is full of fillers.

Wasn't sure if he'd be claimed due to the AHL part (amount) of his two-way deal. Does offer a good amount of NHL experience though. I'm thinking this transaction should clear the way for Semyonov to receive the eventual promotion.

I hope and pray that Marlies Grads help energize this limping Leafs team. It just never seems to happen. Is it because Dubas keeps trading 1st round picks?

Good post.

There is a significant distinction to be made between depth vs fillers.

We need our depth to be better than the other guys to have any season and playoff success. They need to be able to pick up the slack when our top players are misfiring or running cold, like everyone does in a long season.

Depth players like Enqvall, Kerfoot, Mik, Kase, Kampf, Ritchie, Simmonds, Spezza, and Bunting are the guys we are talking about here. Who of them are stepping up? Only obvious ones for me are Spezza, Bunting, Simmonds. That's not going to be enough to get us where we think we should be.......

If you are counting on your fillers to work in the same capacity and have the same impact, you are already pooched.

Teams don't pick up bad players just for fun. They pick up good ones to fit a need, or ones that are upgrades from their list of potential call-ups. Every team has a farm team with players.

Changing the term "depth" for "fillers" doesn't change anything here. Depth is depth. Filler is a synonym to depth and the Leafs lost another depth player to a team likely thinking he's good enough to fit in their depth.

It is funny to many of us that Amadio and Brooks are deemed awful depth players but good enough for teams with perceived better depth... they don't have an Amadio or Brooks on their respective team? If they are just "filler" players, teams with better depth would have better "filler" players... but yet... here we are...
