pftt. consultant? when will Mark actually go get a real job title so he can get proper experience? There's a simple reason you didn't get the job Mark. your post-NHL resume/CV is severely lacking in qualifications.

but but but he's a winner!!!!!!!!!

Not correct ..being a fan for say 35 or 40 years means you know a lot more about hockey than most here who never even saw the 94 team...you teeny boppers have to put in your time....the hate here for Mess and the 94 team is disgusting...a real lack of respect..

Stop while you're ahead  You being a fan longer means nothing, as you've been showing and as Bob has pointed out.

Messier is just an entitled ass. Why can't he pay his dues like all these other coaches?

I'm sure when Dallas Eakins gets fired in the offseason he can just slip right in there

How is it hate? He wasn't experienced to get the job. Experience coaching before is huge in getting a job as HC. Your statement is riddled with holes and fallacies.

Having Messier as our coach would have been even worse for the Franchise than when we had him as our 40+ year old captain. Thanks for 94 Mess... but you can **** off for good now.

There is hate all over this board for the 94 team..just look around..I'm not talking about him not getting the job I'm talking about the lack of respect the 94 team gets in here...anyone who mentions the 94 team or when they show games on MSG the hate comes out

But what you're saying is that by basically saying that he doesn't deserve and that he is being a little strange going back to Edmo after he didn't get it.. and saying good riddance is disrespect. It's also because we want to live in the now. That was 20 years ago. FAR from lack of respect. Maybe you're just personally offended.

But by your posts, I'll say pot meet kettle.

Damn this generation will their damn technology and lack of respeck!

Amazing that people think Messier is entitled to a coaching job. I thought we had this conversation in the summer.

He obviously shouldn't have been given the job. But he also deserves better than people saying good f'in riddance.

It means no such thing. This appeal to age crap that's for some reason increasingly prevalent on these forums needs to stop. Merely because younger fans don't reminisce with you about the '94 team as you're on line to pick up your social security check doesn't mean they aren't similarly knowledgeable or even more knowledgeable. I've actually found some older fans to be very resistant to advanced statistical analysis in favor of more traditional forms of evaluation, whereas the younger generation tends to embrace the progressive thinking.

Seriously, it's enough. I know plenty of older folks who are as dumb as rocks. The fact that you've been on this planet longer and consequently watched hockey for many more years doesn't give anybody's opinion more merit.

I was born in '93. I never got to see the '94 team but I have a great deal of respect for them and what they have done. With that being said, a lot of people need to move on from it.

Yeah those people are just being melodramatic about the whole situation. Mess didn't say a damn thing about not being picked as coach, he quietly left the organisation and is moving on. The fans can't for some dumb reason.

A hockey legend who loves this organization and was willing to put his legacy on the line for it felt disrespected and walked out the door. I'm sorry but it is outrageous that some of you are saying "good riddence" and "**** off". Just say it's a shame and move on.

if messier wanted to actually be a coach, why cant he go about it the way roy did? even though he was a great player, he went down to the junior leagues and coached.. learned to coached, rode some busses.. sure he probably got his chance because he is patty roy, but he paid some dues..

dont get me wrong, messier was a great player before he showed up in ny.. and as a ranger fan well ****, he did some incredible things.. great leader.. but we've seen it with gretzky... just getting thrown into the mix isnt good.. would mark know how to deal with lesser players? how would he set the lineup? media? lots goes into being an nhl coach.. nhl is no place to make mistakes/learn on the job..

Roy also owned the team.

Not only is this generation disrespectful but they're so lazy too. I try like hell to teach this generation a career as a business owner and they just feel they should be entitled, they don't want to work.
Anyway, I wasn't against Messier but I can also see why some others wanted to stay away from him. But like I read earlier he was willing to put his legacy on the line, he's got brass balls.
Go Rangers!

ps and after watching the game last week I'm not so sold on this coach just yet

Bolded is because your confirmation bias helps you see that, and allows you to block out the young people who do have values and do work for their stuff.
