Special Assistant to the Assistant of the Assistant GM

If only more employers operated like this, we wouldn't have these unemployment issues.

What's his official affiliation wth EDM now?

I wonder if there will be a NYR Mess Pt. II after slats retires.

I also wonder if it'll be beneficial for NYR to do what Eakins did with the removal of their glorious years.

I think yes but knowing NYR, it'll never happen.

Maybe Lowe should look into adding Sather as a consultant. Last week,I read Messier was in Edmonton at their training camp. It didn't take much to connect the dots. He said something about looking to get back into the game.

Messier has a sense of entitlement that the Rangers owe him. He looks at the Garden as a cash machine. All of the contract fights. Its get old very fast. He made a comment about his playing experience being a substitute for coaching experience in June. Messier was in Chicago to hand out his Mark Messier leadership award and he discussed the coaching job. Earlier that morning,AV flew from Ottawa to meet with Rangers ownership. Sather was still in California. Remember when the twitter people spotted AV on a flight to NY. Later that night,AV informed the Stars that he was taking the Rangers job.

I think Mess will be happy he did not get the coaching position with NYR once he sees how bad this season will be.

Could not disagree more with this, at least regarding leadership and mental/physical toughness. It may be overrated but it certainly exists and contributes to winning hockey games.

I agree with this but people become enamored with it and make it into something ridiculous. The 2 examples I gave are perfect. A potential career 3rd liner would go top 5 because he's "tough" and a "winner". We were hearing about Drury's little league world championship for how long? Winner is my favorite because this is a team sport, unless the guy is by far the biggest reason his team is winning or losing, it's really overrated and quite ridiculous. What about the other players on the team? Also this is another example, someone being a "winner", a "leader", and "tough" mean that he doesn't even have coaching experience and is already better than the non-winner AV. Or a coach won a cup once and that means he's automatically better than any coach that hasn't. Same with players often.

Can't wait until this evolves in to the Messier versus AV thread once they lose a few more games. Hell we can even throw Torts in the mix.

Good for him. This has absolutely no bearing whatever on the Rangers. What did Mess actually do while he was here? Nothing of substance. "Thanks Slats"? This is meaningless.

Are people forgetting that Messier led teams missed the playoffs for the last seven years of his career? If he were such a capable leader/coach, why couldnt he pull some magic out of those teams? Being a player does not make you a coach. Just because I know how to drive a car doesnt mean i know how to build one. Its a different skill. You dont wait until you are 52 to get your first coaching job at any level and expect it to be in the NHL. I loved Messier up until he left for Vancouver. The guy who came back was not the same person. Its time to move forward, not look back.

Messier = Harbaugh boys.

And guess what the Harbaugh boys worked themselves up through the ranks, gaining experience in the rigors of coaching and learning the minutia of being a HC...Messier is either unwilling or unable to do that...

Look, Torts was not the guy but I do believe Messier was the right pick. One Rangers fan opinion. sorry I started a sh&^ Storm (not really).

PS Messier would have lit a fire under Nash. AV will not.

Cause he was able to do that for Nedved?

You're really bad at taking the context and the tone into consideration. It scares me that posters will assume the most ridiculous inference possible and make a reply on it.

Have you seen the thread you're in. If i didn't assume things were stated at face value, I'd have thought pretty much every post in here was sarcastic.....

Jim Harbaugh?

Jim Harbaugh was named the 18th head coach in the storied history of the San Francisco 49ers franchise on January 7, 2011. Over the last two seasons, the 49ers have tallied a 27-9-1 overall record (3-2 in the postseason). After a 13-3 regular season record, and a trip to the NFC Championship game in 2011, the Niners went 11-4-1 in 2012, on their way to Super Bowl 47. Harbaugh logged 18 years of coaching experience prior to joining the 49ers - Stanford (head coach, 2007-10); San Diego, (head coach, 2004-06); Oakland Raiders (offensive asst., 2002-03) and Western Kentucky (volunteer asst., 1994-2001)

This is guy who paid his dues before becoming a head coach in the NFL.

Messier for coach! I've been a fan for years! Things cost more than they used to! Young people use curse words!

Doesn't work that way.

I am still trying to figure out what "means to play in manhattan" actually means.

i guess it takes a special kind of player to learn the subway system in nyc. also tipping over 20 percent is a bit of a head-scratcher. so there's that...?

NYC subway system is rather complex.

I wish Messier luck in Edmonton. Certainly has a lot to work with out there. Here in NY...I'm still not sure what he did here?

pftt. consultant? when will Mark actually go get a real job title so he can get proper experience? There's a simple reason you didn't get the job Mark. your post-NHL resume/CV is severely lacking in qualifications.
