We had our own version of this. We'd hide behind a snowbank at a stop sign and sneak out and grab onto the rear bumper of cars that would stop. The best cars to hop were VW beetles; those bumpers were tailor made to tow someone. The worst were cars with bumpers that were tight to the car body. I had more than one friend that lost a mitten or glove after it got stuck when they dropped off.
