Speculation: #Melnkyout...The time is NOW!

Will you boycott the Sens over the next 6-8 weeks to put added pressure on Melnyk?

Pretty much every fan in this city wants him out, the problem is connecting everyone. We need a more aggressive campaign approach and we can get him out of the league one and for all !
Make a scene with MelnykOut signs and chants at the game on Saturday. It’ll look even more petty when they kick out over a hundred fans.

So much has been said in this thread by both sides that demonstrates Eugene's aversion to being a tenant in a rented building. Do you have trouble reading?

Umm I have zero problems reading and I see nothing about renting anything. Soo ya chirp away

The NHL BOG, and EM sits on that Board.

There have been NHL owners, in the past, that have re-located, and it's not impossible for it to happen again.

DGMW, I do not think this is EMs end game.

I think EM’s end game is to sell the team, arena, etc. at a handsome profit. I think the handsome part is likely going to be less than he hoped it would be, given the way things are going. At some point I think he cuts his losses (hoped for profits), and sells to a new owner which is likely one of the two bidders for the Lebreton development project.

I don't understand why Melnyk wants to hang on to this franchise so hard considering he treats it like his red-headed step child.

I can only assume it's financially motivated and he's playing the long game to come out ahead even more. I don't believe for a second that he gives a crap about the actual Ottawa Senators on ice product.

Well I just finished reading an artical from when he was going to buy the team,it states that Covanta was making 18 million a year from events and a favorable lease with the sens. I would assume thats why he wont rent, depending on the new lease he might be pulling in 20 a year from the rink. I could see him hanging on to that.

I find it prickish that he didnt pay down his debt but i guess investing that money now and paying it off when it sells is easier.

Melnyk would never be interviewed by Bob McCown on his favourite Toronto media outlets if he didnt own the Sens. Sports economists have outlined many subtle ways owners gain value and wealth from team ownership beyond reported bottom lines which are mostly PR anyway.

No... the boycott is 100% #melnykout

For sure, i get it, and i sympathize with those boycotting and hope you do cost him money. Im in effect boycotting as im not going as often and not as interested since Melnyks messages dont inspire my fandom. But we have to accept that its possible Melnyk, like Ballard and dollar bill Wirtz will hang on anyway until the team is really exciting and garnering national attention for the right reasons again. Its also possible he sells soon as always planned. Either way, no sense filling myself with hate thta in the end wont be productive i figure.

Melnyk has done it to himself.

The economics of owning a team drawing 5,000 a game will do the deed.

No he hasn't, he sure hasn't helped, I have noticed a well organized smear campain complete with signs around town demanding he sell at the same time there is a active campain to drive the value of the team down. I would not be suprised if this effort is being perpetuated by the buyers that were turned down.
These people dont care if the team moves, they dont care any chance of keepig the star players has been whiped out from lack of money, they will not debate anything and the only defense and justification they have is to silence others.

Seems fishy

He only has himself to blame.

HA....I have been telling you people about a new partner months ago....this is an attempt to sever the partnership with Ruddy and bring in the new money for this development. I have been saying this all along. The video clearly states this. Stay tuned for sure

You know you lost all credibility a long time ago. I had heard rumours of Thomlinson last January but nothing happened. Just name this “mythical family” and please don’t pull the NDA bull because it’s not believable.

Yep. Then there's the fact that, even if this magical family does materialize, the idea of the NCC going back to Melnyk after all the hell he's raised is ludicrous. And that's just from what little has been gleaned through the various reports. I'm not saying Ruddy is a saint in this, not by a long shot, but Eugene really comes off as completely out of his gourd during this whole process.

As long as it's not the Cavanaughs or Mierins.

That’s funny, I heard the rumour about Thomlinson leading a local group directly from a Cavanaugh (who was pretty drunk).
They all are. That's why we don't need them. 2 lushes in charge of the team and the Lebreton redevelopment.

You really think the NCC would go back to Euge? I mean, I think it's great that the NCC is finally pushing really hard to actually get something done with the Flats, and that they think a new arena for the Sens is a key component, but at a certain point, they have to realize that Euge just isn't worth the trouble, right?

I think the whole point of the NCC redevelopment was to have an NHL team there. that was the catalyst that started this entire discussion. So they probably have to play nice with this giant baby.

Ugh, yeah, you're right. After all, didn't the NCC approach Melnyk while Baird was still there?

The idea of them capitulating to the weasel just upsets me, even if the Sens get a new arena and the franchise value goes up to the point someone may actually offer Melnyk what he's looking for.

Bagnall's assumptions are questionable to say the least.

1) His assurance that the NHL backs Melnyk.
2) His confidence that the NCC or the City will have anything to do with a Melnyk project going forward.
3) His confidence that Melnyk will continue to operate the franchise in Kanata while the boycott slashes his revenue.

The City, NCC, Devcore and the NHL can all afford to play the long game to get rid of Eugene.

How many years can Eugene hold on in Kanata?

Lets not forget, that it was staffers from the Minister in charge of the NCC that reached out to the Senators Owner, in the summer of 2014, to get him involved in the re-development process for Lebreton Flats.

That is how the forced marriage between The Senators and Trinity began.

It's not Tomlinson, not Greenberg, not Matthews.
