amazingly in a game dominated by the Jets Stu comes in at a pathetic CF% of 27.0 :shakehead

his rookie D partner comes in at 48.6 - unbelievable how a few mid-change minutes away from Stu can improve one's game

What gives with Stu? Help me figure this out. How can a guy that doesn't on the surface appear to be that bad a player bring everyone he plays with down?? How can you possibly get a CF% of 27.0 on a night like last night?? I know Stu has a lot of haters on here but he has some redeeming qualities that offset his shortfalls??

So far maybe 50-100 watching at the iceplex. PMo looks good on skates. Buff in forward jersey. Tangradi is back. No sign of Kane yet

For every good defensive play Stuart makes he seemingly makes another bad play with the puck to give it right back. He handles the puck like a live grenade and while he's a decent defenseman - against the cycle anyway, not so much on the rush with his penchant for jumping up at the blueline to make a hit and get out of position - he ends up getting caught in his own zone for the entirety of his shift.

If by "on the surface" you mean to the eye (rather than looking at stats), you need to watch more carefully how many additional opportunities the opposition gets as a result of his (mis)handling the puck. Beware, once you see it, you can't go back.

Maybe 200 here now. Every drill so far passing with speed. I think I like this coach.

Thanks Burmi. You're right, he has trouble getting that outlet pass off and like many of the defencemen he sometimes waits until its too late to get it passed off. Opponents seem to know the Jets have this problem & they jump all over our defence. Always wondered why we were never able to fix our exitting the zone problem - hoping for changes there with the new coach (or is that something Huddy needs to address?)

Updated today's papers to include Friedman's 30 Thoughts which has a Jets preamble and first 5 thoughts are related to Winnipeg.

For that and all other Jets links.

Asked this earlier:

How did the Jets get out shot-attempted (+6/-16) with Stuart on the ice when they are +36/-18 for all 5v5 minutes without him? Even Mark Stuart shouldn't be that bad...?

I have no idea how that's possible. Quite remarkable, really.

At some point we passed where it was enraging to see Stuart in the lineup.

That stat is the advance stats equivalent of Lebda being -3 in a 9-3 victory for the Maple Leafs.

Some Dzone coverage drills. 3 on 3 then 5 on 5. Now bag skating. Tangradi went hard in the boards and now Frolik. They both came up smiling

Formal part seems over. Players shooting at empty net. Coaches huddled in the middle. Goalies with Flaherty.

Everything was done at a high tempo. Emphasis seemed to be on short passes while at high speed. some players are not great at receiving passes at speed. Not much system stuff, just Dzone coverage. No breakout stuff. Players seemed to enjoy the practice. PMo did stop the first 3 on 3 dzone drill and yell a bit at the group. I think speed will become the identity of this team. I'm glad I came.

That sounds awesome to me! This is a group that has a lot of speed, and I don't think it was utilized enough by Noel.
