Please pay attention. :)

Its not about Kane. Its about Noel. The point wasn't that Kane is whining about his hand hurting. It was that Noel was letting the players take it easy and Maurice is maybe making them work a bit more. Under Noel, Kane came out on the ice at practice and skated for a minute and then bagged it because his hand was no good and Noel LET him. Under Maurice, he came out on his own and skated a considerable amount in spite of his hand injury.

Any chance his hand could have improved a bit over the 24 hour time period? What a crazy idea eh?

:P

You got that right. It doesn't matter. Actually the point Ralph was making was probably silly in the first place. It was just one of those off hand little observation they make in trying to highlight little differences between the old regime and the new and it got misinterpreted and blown out of proportion.

edit - It's tough to see a reason why any hand injury, even a broken hand, would keep him from going out and skating (not practicing, just skating) for a while for conditioning.

I would bet allot of guys ride a bike to help maintain that.

I personally think the risk of further injury is greater if you are out on skates.

It came from people mis-understanding the point Ralph was making. I do listen to 1290. All day.

I too listened and more than one question as to why Kane cannot skate with the main club with a hand injury is not a mis-understanding on my part.

Totally, which is why the original point is probably silly. But I'm just trying to clarify the fact that the original point wasn't really a criticism of Kane. It was a criticism of Noel.

My take

Great game by the team yesterday, hopefully they play like that for the rest of the season. However if they are going to miss the playoffs, then I hope they finish near the bottom because I would rather we get a top 5 pick instead of 13th like last season.

We could put the performance to new coach or the phoenix being very poor but a few notes.
- Liked the coach promoting skilled guys to take spots in the the top lines due to penalties (eg. O'Dell for Ladd) instead of James Wright
- Despite playing a struggling team, the team didn't play down to their level.
- Buff had a good game, but at times he looked like he was playing defense inside the phoenix zone instead of going in for the forecheck. He also takes a while to get his speed and a couple of times the phoenix players blew by him in center ice.
- Frolik ... this guy is great. I cannot believe one of the guys on 1290 ( I think Illegal Curve on Sat Morning) said he would trade him for a high draft pick.

It wasn't "why can't he skate with the main club?" It was "why can't he at least skate?"

Im sure the trainers tell Kane what to do, it's not his choice. If they say ride the bike he does, if they say go for a skate at the Forks he does. Relax, Rick Ralph is off base again, shocker.

I would too. But it has to be pretty damn high.

and again, you are mistaken. He was asking why Kane had left the practice earlier this week after a few minutes of skating. He was drawing a comparison between that and yesterday when Kane actually did come out for a full skate prior to the rest of the teams morning skate. He was questioning why you can't SKATE with a hand injury...

disagree with how you're interpreting it as well. He didn't mention the 'last week' until after he complained about why you couldn't skate with the hand injury, if I recall.

This is one guy you have to keep. He kills penalties, can score 20 goals, can play with anyone and makes his linemates better. He plays every shift and plays the whole 200ft. You lock him up long term, this is a steal by Chevy.

If Buff is going to keep playing forward, what you said is how I see him playing it. Buff is going to have to pick and choose his spots for when he ends up deep in the opposition end... mostly when Buff has the puck. Because I think it's obvious he can be affective, but he can't keep up all the time. There was one blaring example of this in the game. Buff did an end-to-end rush and then had to bust his hump back down the ice on a back check, and he just couldn't do it. Maybe this will come, but I don't see it.

He can play forward, just has to be careful about getting caught up the ice all the time.

Why would he "complain" about why you couldn't skate when he knew (as did I since it had been discussed earlier) that Kane HAD skated before the main club did? They were discussing Maurice and how the regime may be a little different now and they were noting the fact that he might be running a bit of a tougher ship than Noel did.

I don't want to belabour this (I know I already have, lol but people keep re-iterating the same misinterpretation over and over), but I heard the discussion yesterday and then happened to visit HFBoards right afterwards and immediately noticed that people were misunderstanding the point that Ralph had made.

I know we're all on a bit of a high right now after a good win, but IMHO this just a lot of reactionary conjecture by everybody; trend right now is to paint Maurice in a good light and Noel in a negative one. Mountains out of molehills, fashion stories from nothing, etc...

My theory? (and just as much conjecture) Hours after arrival, I don't think there is going to be much of a established 'regime'. If I was Kane? I'd probably go take a little skate no matter how I was hurting just on the basis of knowing there was going to be a new coach on-site - regardless of who that coach was, what sort of structure he was planning to put in place, and if he asked me to or not. Because of guilt, desire to make impressions, or just nerves, or whatever.

we are making alot into nothing, but I'm bored. :) Ralph even stated that Kane could/should have worn a non contact jersey. I don't know why that would come up if they knew he had skated with the injured guys prior, or why it would come up if they weren't trying to stir something up yesterday.

I heard the discussion live as well - and if almost everyone interpreted it the same way, which is different than how you did, there may be something to that.

Anyways it doesn't matter - I took it as just some sensationalism from local media which isn't out of the ordinary.

Great night for the Jets. Completely dominated. The game doesn't speak to how good the new coach is compared to the old. There was no new 'system' put in place in one morning skate. So it speaks to how embarrassed that certain players should be for willfully underperforming for so long - I won't speculate on which players in this post, there are other comments about it.

Whether they liked Noel or not, they obviously have a lot more skill / energy than they were willing to give to Noel. That game looked like the team potential and effort that Noel kept asking for. Ultimately that is why Noel had to go. But it makes me wonder why as a professional they couldn't self motivate or remember the fans when they stepped on the ice.

10 games under Maurice will give us a much better idea of the true potential of the current roster.

No Kane yet at the Iceplex. Maybe he'll be at the main practice this morning.

@DarrinBauming: Some injured players getting work in early at IcePlex... RT @davidjswim: Slater, Halischuk,Postma on the ice. #NHLJets

When team moral is low, there's not much that can motivate a player. And teams can have all the talent in the world and not show up for a coach. See Pittsburgh before Therrien was canned in late January 2009.
