Are Rob King and Jay still on board? Both could go for the better.

I get the Flyers channel too and their crew and production is far superior to current offering from ATT Sports.

Sort of weird for them to change horses now. Should have just waited until the big guys retired to do a full on change-up.

Are they employed by the pens or att? If it’s the former it’s kinda weird and probably to make space for something up to date and to get more women involved, but if it’s the latter itd just be business.

Tbh I’ve watched so little pens since 2019 I haven’t been worried about mears. Don’t have anything original to say but yeah, he has a nice voice, but boy he couldn’t be more generic. If we had a 3rd guy that was more involved than errey it might work, but just those two was boring.

Errey himself I didn’t have a problem with. I like the weirdness and he had interesting things to add, he’s just not a 1b guy, he’s straight colour. Maybe that’s just my 2018 memory of him though.

You know she sucked when she couldn't retain her job even during the woke/female empowerment era.
They forced it too. She is a case study in persistence of trying to ram that square peg into the round hole. The cringe casualties were high.

And I'm not against her because she's a woman. IDGAF as long as you are good at your job. She was not good at her job. I think the knowledge is likely there but how it manifests out of her mouth...yuck.

I don't care at all if it's a female either. I even enjoy a more melodious, female voice. However, I haven't found many good female ones across sports. Don't think they capitalize on the big moments very well.
The best I've seen is probably the English woman who does EPL, Euro and World Cup for the BBC. Usually they give her lesser matchups.
She's quite solid. Still think there could be more bite there though.

Some of the reactions to Leah Hextall were a little hyperbolic and overblown, but it's obvious she's just not cut out to be a pro level play by play announcer. That's not a gender related issue; it's simply a rare talent and she doesn't have it. A lot of good broadcasters would make awful PBP announcers.

A lot of people here hated on Mears for being boring - which he was - but consider the fact that any one of us here would be a billion times worse than Mears if we were suddenly put in the booth at an NHL game. That's the vibe I got from Leah Hextall.

And I remember how bad the Flyers crew used to be back in the early-mid 2000s too, with drunken bum Steve Coates and senile Gary Doernhoeffer not being able to get through a sentence without forgetting what he was saying.

If they can improve, so can the Pens.

Doesn't matter the race or gender for me. As long as they have an alcohol problem, I'm content.

All we need is a girl/woman named Carrie with a harry upper lip who likes to throw down with the best of them.

Harry Carrie.

HC to Geno: "Aren't you a little tall to be a Penguin?"
HC to Phil Bourque: "I hope you know what you're doing?"
Phil to HC: "Yes, you stinking lush!"
HC to Phil again: “Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, Nerf-herder!”
Phil to HC: "I want you to know I'm the boss here, I..____"
HC: Yeah, yeah, may the force be with me.. I don't know where you get your delusions laser brains."

If she doesn't have a melodious voice, I'm afraid it's a no go.

I will miss Errey. I think he gets bagged on because of how long he was paired with Steiggy. And that he was part of the post Lange getting demoted era. But Errey was solid. Overly homerish sometimes. He is the home town announcer so to be a homer is expected, but I will say there were times he was overly Homerish. But he had enough history of the team, and enough ability to translate his experiences playing hockey, into a solid color guy. Would he botch something every now and again. Sure. But when you are trying to be the hometown energy and color guy that will happen. It's to be expected from time to time. I will miss the guy and I think if they botch the replacements people will rapidly do a round turn on their opinion's of Errey. Mears... Meh... He was as plain as they come. I loved the story of the hometown boy getting to announce his team and I am happy he got that experience (and jealous) but he was about as entertaining as sitting through a power point for your yearly safety training at work. I am not happy he was moved on from, because it's not like he was incompetent the team could have had worse than him, he was just utterly boring.

Now I just hope they give Colby a chance if he wants the job. Because I feel like he could effectively provide elements of both play by play and color commentary. You just have to find him someone with some charisma that knows the game for him to bounce off of.

My 2nd favorite Errey moment, only behind “Some guys get their skates sharpened to 3/4, heck some even 6/8....which is, uhh, the same thing, Steigy.”
him explaining how the PK was different with Jordan Staal on the ice because "he just lets you do things you can't do without a big Pterodactyl out there" is up there for me

or the classic for screening the goalie "you've got to get your butt right on his nose"
