I like toffnuss as much as anyone, but I think I stick with Fast over Carcillo.

Not that I don't trust that Carcillo can keep his composre, but I really like Dorsett-Moore-Boyle as the 4th line.

Fast plays a solid physical and clean style without the reputation of a Carcillo.

As long as the Rangers stay away from getting baited by the dirty sphincters that are Simmonds, Hartnell B. Schenn we should take this series.

The more we do not react to their tactics, the more they try to bait us.

The NYR PP HAS to click.

Catalyst for the series? My opinion? Marty St. Louis. He's going to have room as the Flyers D is pretty bad

The guys I'm concerned about are Simmonds, Schenn, Lecavalier, etc.; McDonagh is gonna be on the ice every second that Giroux is.

A few thoughts...

Is Diaz or Moore going to play?

I'd go with Diaz for game 1. Really it doesn't matter because in a close game the Rangers will drop to 4 or 5 defenseman with Diaz or Moore not playing. The thing is, Moore played really well in the playoffs last year. I'm not sure that matters to the Rangers staff now but it's worth remembering Moore is capable of playing well in playoff games.

Will Carcillo or Fast play game 1?

I'd go with Carcillo over Fast but I think AV goes with Fast for game 1.

If I'm AV i preach to the Rangers to turn the other cheek in this series. Don't retaliate, don't play into the trap the Flyers are going to try to set in game 1. The Rangers can't try to be a team they aren't. Make the Flyers pay on the power play.

Sather should be on the phone with the league screaming that they need to watch the Flyers carefully near the crease. Plant the seed with the officials BEFORE the series starts. Honestly, if you were the Flyers wouldn't your strategy be bump Lundqvist every chance you get? That's what I would do.

I'd go with Diaz and Fast. I think Diaz's puck moving skills and PP skills are better than Moore's. Fast has a lot higher upside than Carcillo and similar downside. He's not a guy that will hurt you defensively and he's a guy that has more skill than Carcillo and is probably more suited to our type of game.

The Flyers took the 2nd most minor penalties this season, an average of almost 1 per game more than the Rangers.

They also had the 4th most time on the power play in the league. 57 power play goals to 48 for the Rangers.

Diaz totally **** the bed last night, which leads me to think he's not there.

Flyers are the worst defensive team in the playoffs by a lot and their offensive advantages are being greatly overstated IMO.

If the Rangers offense can't beat them, they'd have no shot going forward anyway. This is the playoffs on easy mode. It's still the playoffs, so they can still lose, but this should absolutely be winnable.

Carcillo has to play at least game 1 and 2!

You are probably right about Fast over Carcillo but I'm swayed by the experience Carcillo has over Fast. We have no idea what effect the pressure of the playoffs with have on Fast. That can go two different ways and perhaps Fast steps up and plays really really well. I just think in this series the Rangers should dress Carcillo. Let Carcillo open up room for Richards and Hagelin. Carcillo seems to play well in playoff games, he was on a Flyers team that went on a long run, he was a bit player on the Blackhawks Cup winner. That experience is important this time of year.

I don't think AV should announce his lineup until warmup's of game 1. Let the Flyers wonder if the Rangers will dress Carcillo or Fast, Moore or Diaz.

You don't get benched because of one play. In my mind, it shouldn't be a question, the answer is Diaz. However, I think NYR sees Moore as a long-term option and I'm not sure they will sit him. They are planning and have already invested quite a bit in him.

Will be Moore, should be Diaz.

I would also have Carcillo in. He is money against the Flyers. I'd sit Dorsett. I like what Fast brings and Dorsett is expendable. Also, somewhat shockingly, Carcillo has been far more disciplined then Dorsett.

I'll be quite surprised if Carcillo/Diaz are in game 1. I expect the following:

Nash - Stepan - MSL
Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccarello
Hagelin - Richards - Fast
Boyle - D. Moore - Dorsett

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Stralman
J. Moore - Klein

So, since AV has the stigma of not being a great playoff coach. How do we compare to the Canucks? We clearly don't have their top end offensive skill, but what about our depth on O, our depth on D, and our goalie? I'd say no matter how inconsistent (relatively to the regular season) Lundqvist is, he's better than Luongo. But what about the rest?

Coaching in the playoffs and in a series is completely different then the regular season. The major complaint from Canucks fans was that AV has trouble adapting in what amounts to a short time span. I.E. he forces matchups that aren't working, leaves lines together to long (I think we saw quite a bit of this in the regular season), keeps playing guys that don't deserve it, etc.

To be honest, I haven't watched enough of the Canucks throughout the playoffs to judge him on his past appearances. For the most part, I've been extremely pleased with the way he coached this season. He's got a clean slate in the playoffs with this squad so I'm going to reserve judgement until we start playing.

Rangers PP will be key in this series. When the flyers go cheap we have to make them pay.

Of course they have to actaully call the penalties so...

"they're letting them play!" :shakehead

The success in this series, and the rest of the playoffs, hinges on the ability of our top forwards to produce. Stepan, Nash and (to a lesser extent) St. Louis have not proven that they could score at a consistent rate this season.

The other components of this team have been firing on all cylinders for the past few weeks, which is really the most you could ask for at this point.

I'm usually pessimistic about the Rangers, as they have never given me a reason to take a leap of faith and indulge in optimism. However, I believe this is the best team we have had since the the '06 lockout. They have an elite defense, goaltending and scoring depth which simply outmatches all of the previously constructed teams. They actually dictate the play for most of the game, and rely on puck control rather than their goaltender to maintain a lead. As much as people ***** about their physicality, their mental fortitude is fantastic. They are typically resilient after giving up a goal and are not easily rattled by the after-the-whistle antics other teams attempt to start.

Now, like I said, I am not going to get my hopes up, as this team always finds a way to crush them when I do so. But, if this team's top forwards begin to produce, I strongly believe they are a cup contender. A team like the Flyers, who have a sub-par defense and goaltender, are a great first round opponent. Beating them may not require all of the forwards to be in top form. The defense and Lundqvist will most certainly have to be, though. If we play our cards right, this could serve as a couple of games for the forwards to get their bearings for future round(s).

Has the subject of Gostisbehere come up yet? Does anyone think he's in the Flyer line up for game #1?

He looked amazing against the Gophers last night.

I think AV's lines suggest that it will be Diaz and Carcillo saying. Diaz played pretty much exclusively the right side last night, don't think he would if AV was planning on him having play on Klein's left.

Yeah a Flyers fan brought him up a few pages ago.

I hope he does play. He's undersized, primed to make a ton of aggressive mistakes and he'll get eaten alive in his own zone.

He has to sign before the season ends--that's today.

The other thing is if he does sign Philly eats a year of his ELC. That comes with future cap ramifications. So the question is would they feel comfortable putting him into their lineup in the NHL playoffs over the other guys they have and what kind of impact that will have on their team on the ice and in the locker room.

When the Rangers signed Kreider--the idea wasn't that he'd play in the playoffs. It happened because the Rangers weren't deep at forward--Boyle got injured and Hagelin got suspended (for a hit on Alfredsson) and the choices came down to 1) Kreider 2) John Scott--to beat up Matt Carkner (who'd mugged Boyle) , Chris Neil (who concussed Boyle) and Zenon Konopka or 3) a Hartford call up like Newbury. Rangers chose door No. 1.

Kreider's first few games by the way he was chasing the puck around so much that he'd come back to the bench every shift completely gassed. He eventually settled down and had quite a bit of impact on the Rangers playoffs that year but the thing was signing him and playing him in the playoffs wasn't by design. It became a necessity.

Carcillo playing would be terrible. The guy is worse than any 4th liner we have when Dorsett isn't an idiot. I hate how risk averse coaches are. Give Fast a chance. Carcillo just have very limited upside and not like Fast is a risky player. I understand Carcillo over Miller, but not Fast.

I'd play Moore over Diaz. Diaz is solid, but I don't really see what he has that Moore doesn't have, plus Moore is bigger and a better skater.

I seriously doubt he'll make or break the success of our second unit.
Decisions on who dresses as the sixth defenseman rarely make or break anything; that's not the point. The idea is to dress the team that gives the best chance of winning. Does that include Moore or Diaz? I'd lean Diaz.
