Unless the Rangers get extremely lucky and win the draft lottery, the idea they are going to trade for Karlsson, sign Kovalchuk, Nash, whoever in FA just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Once McDonagh was traded, that signals to me this team is in rebuild mode for the foreseeable future. No shortcuts. I'd say the odds are we see guys like Zucc, Kreider, Namestnikov, Spooner, Shattenkirk traded are astronomically higher then somehow ending up trading for Karlsson. What the hell would be the point of trading McDonagh for assets, and the turning around and giving up more assets for Karlsson? In FA, fine, maybe it makes sense, especially if the Rangers youngsters impress next season. But other than that, I don't see them signing big FA's or trading for someone like Karlsson.
