If you haven’t already I recommended watching Yzermans presser. It’s 20 min long and he covers the deal at length. Obviously they are very happy to improve their team by adding Mac and JT. But to his admission it was at a very high cost to get that type of quality back.

He mentioned several times that the Prospects they gave up were very very good. It was interesting to hear his take on it to get the other perspective and how he would feel if he were a Rangers fan.

I agree with him.

It wasn’t anything that cripples his organization, but it’s definitely going to be felt. Tampa has the depth to do it, so it’s a chance you take.

Of course no one is going to complain in Tampa if they win a cup.

Tampa wants a cup and wants to remain a contender afterwards. They do that with this trade.

I could see this trade working out for both teams, though Tampa’s benefit is clearly more immediate.

I just watched it, very interesting. It sounds like Stevie Y looked at it like JT and Namestnikov were a straight swap to try and get a different style player and McDonagh was for picks and prospects. He mentions JT for Vlad was more of us wanting Vlad because he's more of a center.

You can tell he doesn't think he gave up low quality assets by any stretch. He said for the level of players he was acquiring he had to give up good picks and good prospects but it seems he's looking at it as he's going for it now and next year and because of the very large farm they have that they were able to lose high quality assets.

Unless the Rangers get extremely lucky and win the draft lottery, the idea they are going to trade for Karlsson, sign Kovalchuk, Nash, whoever in FA just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Once McDonagh was traded, that signals to me this team is in rebuild mode for the foreseeable future. No shortcuts. I'd say the odds are we see guys like Zucc, Kreider, Namestnikov, Spooner, Shattenkirk traded are astronomically higher then somehow ending up trading for Karlsson. What the hell would be the point of trading McDonagh for assets, and the turning around and giving up more assets for Karlsson? In FA, fine, maybe it makes sense, especially if the Rangers youngsters impress next season. But other than that, I don't see them signing big FA's or trading for someone like Karlsson.

Once Lundqvist, Smith, and Staal are off the books I think it is back to regular playoff mode because then we have the Cap space needed to have a good team. During that time we are likely to trade a bunch of older guys like Fast, Zuc, Kreider, Spooner, Namestnikov, Hayes, etc.

I tended to view it as two separate deals connected by common teams.

The Miller for Namestnikov deal always struck me as a 1 for 1 swap to bring in a different element.

What did you expect him to say, that he just smoked the Rangers for the 2nd time? It was a bad trade for us because we would have gotten a lot more come the draft and multiple teams bidding.

what element? Miller is better in every way I am sure and younger too, bigger and more physical and kills penalties and plays PP and produces more and wins faceoffs.

I personally do not believe that.

I’ve always felt the max value was two playoff runs out of McD.

The Rangers got their share of calls on McD, I am not convinced that new teams and better deals emerge in 2 months.

I think the market on all the Rangers assets was pretty clear. I’m not worried about them missing out.

Having said that, I am somewhat surprised that there didn’t seem to be more buzz around Zucc.

FFS man, stop overvaluing our players. McD has not been the McD we all remember from years ago and Miller is Miller. You are not going to get better assets at the draft then you will in an absolutely brutal battle to the death PO race in the Eastern Conference.

I think when Miller is on he’s a more balanced player. He is bigger and has the more established track record at the NHL level.

But I think Namestnikov is more naturally talented. He’s faster. It remains to be seen who scores more moving forward. Miller got to the higher level sooner. Namestnikov is having a better season now.

The age thing is a none factor. We’re talking about 4 months. I think you’d also be surprised how much closer they are physically too.

And completely worthless in helping the Rangers win the Cup. He had his chance and has been a no show, just like Stepan and Nash and for the last four years McD. Get over it and stay focused on the goal. It's getting tiring watching Rangers posters act like 13 year old girls who didn't get invited to the popular girl's party and are poring their hearts out in their tear stained diaries.

This is a business and a cut throat one and our players weren't good enough. I don't care who they are and how much fans love them, get them the f*** out of here and try something else.

The only buzz around McD was really just Yzerman. This was a good time to to trade rentals. But I am surprised no team wanted Desharnais even for a late round pick, their scouts must have a clue unlike ours. What I hate about rebuilds is they start great then by July 3rd we got a bunch garbage UFAs that they couldn't help signing and not good players, more like has beens and reclamation projects who will play instead of the prospects. So I no longer believe in this team being capable of sticking to rebuild.

Hoping for Mike Sauer.

Similar to what I'm hoping for out of Lindgren.

People have floated Vlasic out there but I think his offense is underrated. 30 points a year in the NHL. These guys aren't hitting 30 points a year where they are now.

McDonagh's offense took a big leap at this level but it's rare.
Skeji’s offense took a leap too.

Hajek 11-24-35 in 52 games this year and 1-5-6 in 6 games at WJC (second in scoring to Makar) Not bad stats and from what I remember from WJC, he handled offensive end pretty well. I think he has more to offer offensively than Lindgren.

It was reported that lots of teams checked in re: McD. So that’s not an accurate statement.

Interestingly enough, the final deal was pretty darn close to what we’d been tossing around on these boards for a while.

Namestnikov equally worthless if not more helping Tampa win a Cup.

I think Miller’s fate was somewhat sealed when he reached the point of 1 goal in 40 playoff games.

Honestly I haven't seen much of Namestnikov, but Miller was was probably my favorite Ranger I think we made a big mistake trading him, should have tried to include Vesey instead.

Listening to Sirius radio and they have their "prospect guru" on. I can't remember his name, but said Howden is a third line center and the defenseman is a bottom pairing defenseman. I am trying to stay positive, but don't love hearing that.

I don't thinks its far off. I think they'll be a little better, but they weren't elite prospects. I think anyone expecting them to be primary players on a cup contender is wrong.

I liked Miller a lot too. I can’t say trading him would’ve been my preferred approach. My hope was that he was going to be part of next wave.

I respectfully disagree on their upside.

I don't think either projects as a star, but I think the upsides are being downplayed a bit.

Hajek was 1-7-8 in in 7 games at the WJC
