I don't really buy this. I would think/hope the team is prioritizing home ice or a division title over getting guys milestones. The simplest explanation is just that McDavid has been off the last few games. I mentioned it in another thread, but he's had pucks roll off his stick in shooting spots a number of times, I think it's just one of those stretches.
I think there is something to it. If you are of two minds sometimes things don’t go as well.

There 100% is something to it. McDrai are so good that they can force those milestones. They’re also prioritizing winning. But they just dummied the division leaders while simultaneously putting up numbers.

Longer story short, I’m fine with it! It gives us more to loom forward to as fans

13 points and 6 goals in the final 7 games to have the best non-Gretzky/Lemieux season of all time and pass Ovechkin's 65.

Does he do it?

I guess it (as well as other milestones) depends on whether the big guns play all of the games or rest for the last few before playoffs.

Three "off games" where he scores 0g, 5a, -2, and 5 shots, with the team is 2-0-1, lol. Yes, by his metrics those are 3 not-great games, but its still a 136 point pace for the season. hahaha. Just ridiculous.

This reminds me of NHL '94 (based on the 92-93 stats) where if Mario Lemieux had an overall of 99, he was on a "cold streak" hahaha (he had 69 goals and 160 points in 60 games that season).

The wingers he's been playing with lately have all been some degree of ass so that's a factor too.
Very true. I also feel like he has taken some punishment over the last couple of weeks so he is in a bit of self preservation mode. Kane is a good finisher and shooter but his passing this year wasn't too hot and then the wrist injury happened which made it even worse. Neither Yamamoto or Hyman are good enough passers to set him up either. I'd like to see Bjugstad given a chance on his RW because he creates chaos with his size and reach and can make simple passes.

Leon has also been absolutely cooking.

I find when one or the other is red hot the other doesn't produce quite as much. Not because they're playing bad, but there are so many goals to go around and score effects come into the equation when you're up by a few.

I think it's a matter of knowing that the other top dog isn't at peak form so the other guy picks up his game. If both are healthy and going well in the playoffs and we get decent goaltending, anything can happen.

I posted this when it would have taken 1.6 goals per game to get there (or something like that). That was seemingly doable. You should have waited until there was 1 game left in the regular season, then you could have wrote: "15 goals in 1 game ... impossible!"

It's all about context.
I'm aware. Tough to do either way, was my point, regardless of the time. He was on a severe heater at the time of your post, and expecting/hoping for him to keep up that pace might be a tad unrealistic, even for true blue Oiler fans. Finishing even with 65 would be quite the feat.

I'm a little disappointed the crowd didn't give him a standing ovation, unless I missed it. 300th + the enormity of the goal made one well deserved.

A couple stats of his that I found impressive:

1) McDavid is almost net-neutral on the PK this year, 8 goals for and 9 goals against when he's on the ice shorthanded. This is a sample size of about 100 minutes.

2) In his last 34 games, McDavid is a +5 on the PK. Yes, a +5. On the ice for 5 GF and 0 GA.

His speed makes him very dangerous on the pk. Last night he simply blew away from everyone to score his short handed goal.

In the 80's the Oilers played Gretzky a lot on the pk because of his anticipation and his ability to transition the puck. He typically played high and if there was even a hint that he might get the puck the defensemen had a tough choice. Stay and try to keep the puck in the zone or abandon the goal line in case Gretzky and one of Coffey, Messier or Kurri would catch you pinching and turn it into a 2 on one going the other way.

McDavid gives the defense a similar dilemma. The safe play is abandon the zone because if he gets you moving forward its all over.

The stat is a bit silly (still a great accomplishment) given that Gretzky had some streaks that were super long and therefore only "one streak."

But yes he's been super consistent this year and it's great to see.
I don't know if I would go to silly, because it's harder to score now, IMO, and near 60+ games of streaks broken up is impressive.

Gretzky's is still just amazing, but Connor set an all-time league record, that's huge

I don't know if it's silly. Sure having a 50 game point streak is probably better than 5 10 game point streaks. But how many people have 10 game point streaks to begin with? That in itself is somewhat of an accomplishment

All the other names on the list are currently using their Senior discounts. :)

Leaf fans almost lost their minds when Mitchie went on his solo streak earlier this year.:D

I’ll never forget that one guy who declared McDavid wasn’t anything special.
Wonder if Stan Fischler still thinks Jason Robertson is a better player and leader than Connor McDavid?

It's not so much that a 50 game point streak is better or not, though it is more difficult.

More that by having a 50 game point streak it makes it fundamentally impossible to even have 5 10 game point streaks because there are only 30 games left.

Don't get me wrong McDavid is having a hell of a year and is easily the best player I've ever seen at an age when I can appreciate his greatness.
