Post-Game Talk: McDavid took that personally

My backhanded comment is that the team must have talked about backhanding a bit. Just getting pucks at net in tight. Both Pods goal and Brown winning goal coming on simple backhands. Was Arvids? I'd have to review that one.

Unlikely scorers tonight and we needed it but McDavid was all over those making those plays go.

STL kinda suck against us. Debrusk said it would be a good series but I don't think it would be more than 4-5 games. Blues can't contain the guns we have and have lost every game against us. Bad matchup for them.
3/4 goal;s were in close.

It's almost like its easier to score closer to the net.
Might be arvi's first goal where he didnt tickle the rafters while winding up too.

I actually think all 4 were within 10-15 feet of the net.

Seemed like the club were doing some different things tonight and the backhands were completely unexpected and for one reason we hardly have any players tossing backhands at net. I always thought its hard on goalies, its like southpaw, and its unexpected. Seems like players forget that sometimes. I think they were reminded. There were too many backhands tonight by Oilers for i to be a random thing. They must've practiced a few. Broadcast mentioned Pods had been practicing those.

As a goalie, its hard to read as it comes off the center of the blade and goes either way, wrist/snap/slap shots all come off closer to the end.

NHL officials, all the incompetence with none of the accountability. Just an absolutely brutal job by the stripes tonight.

Great to see McDavid back, and some pushback by the team.

Broberg must look at our defence and laugh and giggle 🤭
I don’t think Broberg has done much laughing against us this year. He’s been brutal and we have owned his team.

Oilers catching covid25.

And if only 2 players are sitting, you wonder how many actually have the illness.
Just a side comment but its kind of hilarious now how they blow up these big huge Measles virus similar to how they did with Covid just trying to get people to freak out about it. The News now is all about blowing everything up, literally, as if its existential threat. Big huge splashes of giant Measles virus on the news.

Before Covid, and it started around SARS, then Avian Flu and Hog Flu and whatever else it seems like this Millennium has been a lot about inflating the dangers.

They should make a new space invaders game with Virii.... blow those suckers up.

He got embarrassed last game and got sent into a spiral of being garbage.

Glad hes not signed for 4.6 this and next year.

Some of these cases are all too real. It can't be entirely dismissed.

As a random scorer, like Pods or Brown, I preferred the backhand. hah. Its just harder to predict like you say but its also surprising to goalies who just expect a player in 2025 to not be trying to slot a backhand. Not sure why players don't do it more. Hard for goalies to prepare for what they don't expect. With a backhand as well its also so much more likely you can slot it by an outstretched pad.

Its all about political control.

I remember growing up with sars and stuff and hearing how bad it was on the news, and my day to day life never changing, and then bird flu, and then whatever mosquitoes give.

All I know is that im going out hiking/paddleboarding in the summer, and gonna continue snow shoeing in the winter.

As a scorer, you also have no idea where its going so its a great tool

Pretty much. But for the news its about selling news. Everything now is around what sensationalism used to be. The news would be telling us Martians landed again if they thought they could get away with it. "Everybody get in your houses" "Everybody down" lol

German Measles, Measles, Chicken Pox etc were pretty harmful back in the 50's 60's and the News then wouldn't be freaking out about it and people didn't either. People just kept going to school, going to work.

Measles was much more deadly in first waves because there was no built immunity in populations to it. Its much less a prevailing threat now.

So is J.Skinner doing enough to make game 1 of playoffs?
IMO Podz, Henrique, Perry, Brown and Arvidsson are locks now.
Nuge, Hyman, Drai, McD, Frederic as well.

Leaves just 2 spots for Janmark, Kapanen, Skinner and possibly Kane.

Max Jones and Philp aren't making it.

Same thing people said about them the year they won the Cup.

Pacing for 95pts, most in the league since 4N break, good defensively and PK's. Thomas is pretty damn elite.
Don't think its the same sort of team. Blues were a big team that can lean on people back then and got into a groove and had all world goaltending.

Binnington, even as he's been good at 4 Nations and since, he wasn't particularly good in this game and frankly there was lots to critique in his game tonight. It was a bit of a mess. He not only gave up the 4 goals there were 4 more instances where he was beat on the play and the Oilers missed the empty net.

Blues had really strong and physical leadership when they won the cup and that ride even at that was pretty outlier. I don't get the same thing from Kyrou and Thomas and Bushnevich. More the impression I get from them is regular season hero's

Blues have lost every game against us, and not for no reason.

Just finished game on PVR.
Awesome finish.

Also Pickard despite not hitting .900 for the first time in a while I thought played pretty well. He stoned the Blues around half a dozen times, at least, and something we rarely get from Skinner.

Pickard is showing he's got the better goods, he's also better playing the puck and the team likes playing for him.

But I still doubt its enough. Skinner will get the cage when he says he's ready because thats always how its gone here. Whether he should or not.

Lmao if you only knew. ICU overflowing with patients with covid. Many of whom died. Many young. But maybe I was just imagining what I saw. Or maybe I'm in with the deep state, in with all the other healthcare workers yeah that must be it... Christ.

A couple thoughts...

#1) They are miles better defensively when Kulak gets big minutes. Yes, he can get out muscled in front of the net, but the dude is just so automatic in just making the right decisions when he gets the puck. Imo the obvious setup going into the playoffs is having him next to Nurse. Let Walman stay on his natural size. I also really like the idea of him and Stecher as a reliable 3rd pairing.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Kulak
Walman-Stecher

2) Skinner is the best natural winger for McDavid. He's legitimately a threat from anywhere in the offensive zone, and has the offensive IQ to keep up with Connor. Mix in a newfound active stick for picking off pucks going through the middle ice,, and it's a perfect fit.

Skinner-McDavid-Hyman
Kane-Drai-Podz
Fred-RNH-RV
Janmark-Henrique-Brown

I think they are a pretty different team without oreilly

Maybe they are also due for some regression

I didn’t say they were bad. I just said they don’t have what I deem to be gamebreakers like Drai and McDavid.

Time will tell. And we shall see

Blues fan I take it?

Secondary scoring starting to pick it up

Arvidsson now up to an 18 goal pace, Skinner at over 24 goal-ish pace since Jan. 1, RNH at above a 20 goal pace since Jan. 1 also. Henrique starting to score a bit more also, 8/11 of his goals are from Jan. 7 onwards.
