Post-Game Talk: McDavid took that personally

Also you can say Pickard would like that third goal back, but he made some big saves down the stretch.
Idk, it was deflected and him able to just get a pad on it was impressive. Unfortunately no one was covering the blues player at the side of the net.

Max Jones has been pretty much a dud so far... 1 assist and -8 in 15 games... playing 8 minutes a night so you know the coach doesn't exactly trust him a lot either.

I admittedly didn't know much about him before he got here... but not overly impressed so far.

He does apparently lead the Oilers in hits/60 which they definitely need... but if a guy has zero offense and is a minus magnate... I don't know if those few hits he gets playing 8 minutes a night mean very much.

Should have just taken Kostin back in the San Jose deal alongside Walman and passed on Jones; we had the free cap with Kane's LTIR anyway. Haven't been impressed with this player.

Also Pickard despite not hitting .900 for the first time in a while I thought played pretty well. He stoned the Blues around half a dozen times, at least, and something we rarely get from Skinner.

Pickard is showing he's got the better goods, he's also better playing the puck and the team likes playing for him.

But I still doubt its enough. Skinner will get the cage when he says he's ready because thats always how its gone here. Whether he should or not.

I don't have nearly the anxiety with Pickard in net that I do with Skinner, especially on the first ten shots... And I can only imagine how much more calming it is for the team to have Pickard in net. It's funny, because with Skinner out, we're actually able to talk about other problems with the team and I'm actually finding myself agreeing with people that I had previously considered putting on ignore (nobody has made the cut just yet). And many of those people seem to be championing Pickard getting the start in the playoffs as well.

So...maybe Skinner should wait a few more weeks just to be safe. You don't want to take any chances with concussions!

Its just so obvious that the team should be running with Pickard. Not because he's fantastic or anything, but because Pickard>Skinner. Which I've been saying for ages.

It's a personal choice. They will be the first to tell you. So, no I don't feel bad. Some people make bad decisions based on what they read on social media, and they might catch measles in this day and age
I meant more about those who are immunocompromised and depend on heard immunity. Your choices can sometimes affect those around you.

Someone reported that the other option we had was Pageau from NYI instead of Frederic+Jones. Deal fell through because Isles didn't want to retain.

Yeah they can still miss but really remote. Would take everything going jsut the right or wrong way.

tbh I'd rather the Flames miss playoffs again than the Blues. ABC runs strong in this province.
I'd rather have Blues or Minnesota in the Pacific pool having a chance to eliminate Golden Cheetahs than Flames shitting the bed in the alternative matchup.

So is J.Skinner doing enough to make game 1 of playoffs?
IMO Podz, Henrique, Perry, Brown and Arvidsson are locks now.
Nuge, Hyman, Drai, McD, Frederic as well.

Leaves just 2 spots for Janmark, Kapanen, Skinner and possibly Kane.

Max Jones and Philp aren't making it.
Perry is far from a lock and neither is Brown. Perry has really been struggling for the past month or so. His age is showing. He can’t keep up to the quicker teams and he can’t keep up the intensity for long bouts. Asking him to play every second night is expecting way too much. Father Time catches up to everyone.

As far as Brown goes- he is rocking a 31%xGF. His shot metrics are also poor. Basically, when he is on the ice - it’s like the other team is on the powerplay. Same with Janmark. They are barely NHL players. Also- for Janmark- his effective PK is offset by how much he gives away 5v5. He is a net negative player.

After tonight’s game, Jeff Skinner is one of the most mistreated players in hockey.

All true. Knob will still play them over Jeff Skinner.

Brownie points, Arvy having a night and #97 coming back, what more can you ask for right now? A W against the Blues to sweep the season series? Here you go... :naughty:

A couple thoughts...

#1) They are miles better defensively when Kulak gets big minutes. Yes, he can get out muscled in front of the net, but the dude is just so automatic in just making the right decisions when he gets the puck. Imo the obvious setup going into the playoffs is having him next to Nurse. Let Walman stay on his natural size. I also really like the idea of him and Stecher as a reliable 3rd pairing.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-Kulak
Walman-Stecher

2) Skinner is the best natural winger for McDavid. He's legitimately a threat from anywhere in the offensive zone, and has the offensive IQ to keep up with Connor. Mix in a newfound active stick for picking off pucks going through the middle ice,, and it's a perfect fit.

Skinner-McDavid-Hyman
Kane-Drai-Podz
Fred-RNH-RV
Janmark-Henrique-Brown
We are really starting to see the version of Skinner that I was hoping for having followed much of his career going back to his time in Kitchener. The added attention to defense also helps.

I actually like that line. Hyman can go to the net and Skinner is more the one-shot-finisher that this team has had trouble finding for McDavid outside of Draisaitl.

I don’t think Broberg has done much laughing against us this year. He’s been brutal and we have owned his team.
Agreed
I really didnt understand his comment. I actually think we have a solid legit NHL defence. Eckholm and Walman out and boys win a game with 5 Dman. Nurse has been playing great, Kulak has been solid and I have Stetcher on the team for playoffs

Lucky I wasn't playing in net otherwise it would look like this

Will be McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH, Hyman, Arvidsson, Skinner, Henrique, Brown, Podkolzin, Perry, Janmark with the remaining spot going to Kane or Frederic (assuming either can play). If both can't play, then it is Ryan, Jones, Philp.
