If McD ever said he wanted a trade before his contract expires, and it's not likely now that the Oilers are actually winning, and he wanted to go only to the Rangers, then the Oilers would need to ask for Lafreniere because of his potential to become great in this league, and as far as making the money work, would likely have to convince Zibanejad to waive his no movement clause, even if he didn't stay in Edmonton, then the Oil could flip him to a team he wanted to go to for further assets. But definitely some combo of Lafreniere, Kakko, Miller, Georgiev, Schneider and Zac Jones or Miller would have to be on the table as well, though certainly not all of them.
no guarantee as to the bold.
NY has too many guys w/restrictive clauses
then also, putting all yr eggs in one basket is not smart
what if McD suffers signif injury?

depth is also needed to win
NY better off w/pass on McD

IF IF IF we think Benny Allaire can come up w/another net minder gem, which I lean yes but is not a given, then something around Drai + for Shesty +, is a maybe, but otherwise no

This off season and before McDavid's NMC kicks in:

:edmonton
Brennan Othmann
Braden Schneider
K'Andre Miller
Igor Shesterkin
Filip Chytil

:rangers
Connor McDavid

Oilers receive a really good LW prospect in Othmann, two defensemen who are on ELCs but are already very good, a legit #1 starter in Shesterkin, and a middle six center in Chytil. They also get a lot of cap space for Holland to throw away on those coveted 37+ year old players. Oh and maybe re-sign Kane. Who knows.

The Rangers receive Connor McDavid with no cap dumps and signed long term. The money can work with all of the cap coming off the books next year and nearly $5 Million in cap space they have right now. The Rangers keep all of their top players in the line up; Fox Panarin, Zib, etc and also Lafreniere and Kakko on ELCs to take up positions vacated by pending UFAs. Lastly, as some NY fans have been insisting, Georgiev gets those minutes to show what a great starter he can be.
Yes sure why not ....Oilers give leon too as a gesture of good faith

Honestly in a vacuum maybe it’s fair. I think there is a solid chance Shesterkin becomes the best goalie in the NHL if he isn’t already. The injured price has probably fallen and Vais has been worse playing for a far better team so I think he is the new Generational talent in Net.

Connor. you can deflect to Pat Maroon if you like.
Yeah, I need to deflect criticism from the best player in the world to a "he hasn't led his team anywhere" guy.

Lemieux was only good in 91 and 92. Gretzky sucked after 1988. 'Cuz they didn't lead their teams anywhere.

Its a dumb argument, and deserves mocking.

mock all you want. Connor is a great player, maybe this is his year. the two guys you mention have a few things Connor doesn't.

I know Rangers fans are used to winning almost every big star that hits FA but I seriously don't think McDavid cares about playing in the Big Apple
could see him wanting to come home before that
and if not Toronto where he's from I'd put my money on
FLA/TB/SJ/LA/ANA all before NYR

Yep. Matt Murray has 2 cups while Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist have none. How does your logic apply there?

Justin Williams has 2 cups and a Conn Smythe to his name while Teemu Selanne has a single cup win and no Conn Smythe. Explain THAT.

I didn't invoke Connor's name to Gretzky and Lemieux. i get it, i hit a nerve. he is a great player. maybe he wins a round.
Are you going to defend your point or just continue trolling? The lack of championship argument is dumb. You know its dumb. So stop using it.

No. You said he "hasn't got his team" past the second round. Just like Lundqvist couldn't win his team a cup while Matt Murray won his team 2.

Anyways, moving on.

This is definitely an emotional subject for EDM fans. There are some pretty obvious emotional responses in this thread.

My own opinion is that he's going to get his money wherever he plays. What he won't get in EDM is a chance to win. At some point his desire to be considered among the greats and have playoff success will dictate his desire to leave. I definitely don't see McDavid finishing out his contract in EDM. If they collapse in the playoffs yet again this year I could see his camp wanting a change sooner rather than later.

EDM fans should know better than anyone that nothing is forever and any player can be traded at some point. McDavid is no different.

Sadly it's only a matter of time before McDavid grows tired of the oilers incompetence and demands out.

If you think any team will offer anything close to his value you're sadly mistaken

I think carolina could throw together a package including Aho, Slavin, Svechnikov, Jarvis and 3 firsts. But that's all your getting.
