McDavid questions Vancouver switching goalies and playing PP1 in 8-1 game

I feel a little stupid here because I don’t still understand what McDavid’s original point was or even the point of your exchange here.

A switch to a back up goalie isn’t insulting or even particularly notable. We all know it can happen at any time for many different reasons.

Now, I can sort of see a hypothetical argument for a team’s pride being stung if a team voluntarily aputs an EBUG in to replace a healthy goalie. Being so confident that you willingly forgo playing with a NHL goalie might send an unintended message.

When I first watched the clip and I was genuinely confused that he brought it up and EBUG part only made it more confusing.

I now wonder if McDavid was pointing to this as an example of a team doing something similar to what the Oilers did with the EBUG (note: even though pretty different) because they took some flak over the EBUG switch?

I can’t stress enough that I don’t remotely understand what McDavid is going on about in the clip. The Canucks broke him.

He was saying "It's not like he is an EBUG" in that it otherwise woulda been feel good story of a guy who was given a once in a lifetime opportunity if he was an EBUG. He took it as a slight (like many might) by just giving their backup a coaster likely not knowing Demo was sick.

But his real problem should be what his team did.

At the end of the day, it’s a single game out of 82. This isn’t a true indication of how either team will be this season, it has to be mildly concerning to see how McDavid and Draisaitl quickly let their emotions get the best of them. They are high level athletes that appear to be souring on their current situation

I don’t think he said anything bad in the interview, and he didn’t know Demkos situation obviously.

He’s gonna leave Edmonton tho.

Every single one of you that's pissed at him and his response, think about it just a little bit. Guy got blown the f*** out on opening night, and he's being bombarded with questions that are stupid af, the reporters know the answer to it. Imagine spending your entire life dedicating everything to hockey, being a lifetime competitor and losing and then reporters are asking you these stupid ass questions. Just for 1 second put yourself in his shoes, he's a competitor, he's pissed, he's a human being, relax, holyyyyyyyyyyy. He sounded salty but who wouldn't, everyone wants to win.
I probably wouldn't tip off that I'm pissy about these particular things given it would make me and my team look like wusses who need the opposition to hold back in a blowout.

I will say again what I’ve said for years now. The problems in Edmonton start from the top.

If a coach like ”Trotz” was to interview for them and said to McDrai ”here’s how we’re going to play: we’re going to win more games, but you two are going to get much less points” - he wouldn’t get the job.

Sometimes with something like the flu, symptoms can come on within an hour or two.
It was going through the team - he may have felt fine when the game started and figured it had skipped over him.
He's also in great shape, so he may have been essentially asymptomatic until his body was put under pro hockey duress and dehydration for two hours.

Hughes commented on how he was sick all day prior to the game. He just felt good enough to play, that can quickly change after sweating for 40-50 minutes though

Good

I want a pissed off McDavid, that's when he plays his best hockey
After the last couple of years playoff exits and all the talk about getting together early this year to start the cup run you wouldn’t think he’d need any motivation for the first game of the season.

Actually, he said "It's not like Smith is an EBUG" thus....he is not actually saying anything hypocritical there.

Making the other team stand around and watch while you do a big thing about bringing on the EBUG so he can pretend he's an NHLer in a blowout, and then all the players laughing at the end of the game like it was a big joke is 1000x more disrespectful than anything any team has ever done to the Oilers.

I don’t buy this as thing.

Unlike running up a score, I don’t ever remember an NHL player describing the NHL back-up coming in late in a games as a “slight”.

McDavid called it a “bizarre decision” and I don’t know why.

If the Canucks best players aren’t supposed to play on the PP1 or run up the score, then why is their goalie required to stay out there?

The feel good story was the Oilers reason behind the EBUG switch. OK.

There’s a ton of logic reasons for a team to switch to a back up goalie, it happens relatively often, so why is McDavid not treating it like it’s a normal thing?

He was being weird lol.

I am sure it has already been said, but what kind of dumb logic is it to complain about both of these things?

He is complaining they changed goalies, I guess signaling that they don't need to try and are taking it easy, but he is also complaining that they are trying too hard by putting PP1 out there.

Play better if you don't want to get embarrassed.

For the record, this was also the chronology on the PP stuff :

14 minutes left, 6-1 game Oilers go SH. Canucks put out PP1. Like I said earlier in the thread, this is totally automatic given the score and the amount of time left, and given how explosive Edmonton can be. 5 goals in a period for that team will happen a few times this year. On top of that, that PP was from Draisaitl giving a cheap cross-check to Vancouver's superstar in Pettersson, and if you're talking about 'the code' here when you're handing out cheapshots to stars you can't expect the other team to just roll over and play the 4th line on the ensuing PP.

12 minutes left, 7-1 game Vancouver puts out Lafferty and Joshua on the PP. This is about as early/close as you'll ever see this happen.

You heard it here, folks. Don't you dare bring in reality when it comes to McDavid. Don't question anything. Do not even sneeze in his presence. Okay, okay -- over the top. But c'mon man. There's a wide gap between what is in this thread and actual hate.

Stop being a baby. Plenty of examples of hatred in this world. This thread isn't one of them.

Multiple comments about him looking like a crack addict, a hobo, a creepy douchebag, an idiot.

Just good ol' friendly banter, I suppose.

If your star players take dumb penalties and try to goon up a game that’s out of touch, of course the opposition isn’t going to let off the gas.

If a similar situation arises on Saturday, Tocchet should switch goalies near the end of the game, just to f*** with him. Edmonton likely gets their #1 defenceman back though, so doubtful to think a similar outcome is likely

Who cares? As evidenced by the first page of the thread, everyone doesn't like McDavid winning Art Ross'. What's the difference lmfao, McDavid in his feelings about getting pumped by the Canucks, HF in their feelings about McDavid winning trophies.
Did you even read what I replied too?
