Incredible achievement. Other active players that did it under 1000 games for comparison : Crosby (757 gp), Malkin (848), Ovechkin (880), Stamkos (945), Kane (953). Hundreds of games quicker than some all time greats really is eye popping.

McDavid hit 500 points in 369 games, same exact number as Crosby. His second 500 he got in 290 games, where it took Crosby 388 games. Crosby's splits aren't that different for either 500, but it looks like McDavid hit another level post covid break.

Likely owns third from here on out. Bossy hit 1100 in 725 games, didn’t play long enough to make 1200, and I believe Esposito sits third at 1200 in 872 games.

(Note - the thread I'm quoting is several years old, so it doesn't reflect Crosby and Ovechkin. But none of that affects McDavid's trajectory here).

Assuming he stays healthy, where will McDavid end up on these lists? Let's assume it takes him 60 games to score his next 300 points, then he slows down to 75 games for 400 and 500.

That would get him to 719, 779, 839, 914 and 989. Which would result in him ranking 3rd (behind Gretzky and Lemieux) for all five milestones.

Obviously this is contingent on McDavid remaining healthy (and motivated). I also think there's a non-trivial chance that McDavid becomes the first player (after Gretzky of course) to reach 2,000 points.

Awesome for McDavid. I keep harping on this, especially when people are denigrating him for "not being a leader" or "not being a winner," but people really should enjoy getting to watch this guy play.
This kind of reminded me again how Probably the most untouchable stat Wayne has that will never be broken. 1000 in 424 games is insanity lol.
Bananas. That's just over 5 seasons.

Then he scored another 500 in less than 200 more games!

It's crazy that you have to look back at his career and wonder where he'd have ended up if not for Suter.

He has third quickest on lock. That 300+ game bulge beyond #2 Mario and #3 Espo bleeding into Dionne is so much buffer that it would take him retiring before getting to each milestone for him to not appear at third.

But for fun, we can go really crazy and pretend that McDavid tumbles to 1 PPG overnight starting with his very next game for the next 500 games—with good health, this takes him through the rest of his current age 28 season and all the way through his age 33 season, while factoring in about 10 missed games per season.

He would hit 1500 in 1159 games, still good for 4th!

It’s more likely he hangs out at about 1.35-1.40 for his next 500, which would have him flirting with 1700 points through those 1159 games, which might have him clearing Dionne by about a 100 games.

It wouldn’t remotely shock me if he maintained his current career average and got to 1500 before he plays his 1000th game.

Equally as mind bending is how he basically didn’t miss a beat rolling through 1000 to 2000.

433 games for that run.

Overall, his shortest run between milestones was the 33 games it took him to go from 800 to 900, a staggering 3.03 PPG.

Funny enough I've never seen his dad wear anything oilers ever lol
Funny enough I think he wears same thing every game

I saw that stat again today and still can’t believe it
