McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

Are you Jackson Pollock? Abstract reasoning still needs to be grounded somewhere. Other elite players would produce more on a powerplay with McDavid, but implied in your responses is that you think other elite players wouldn't also produce more with Draisaitl on the powerplay. The 32% powerplay is not just because of McDavid, it's also because Drai can score better and is only a slightly worse passer.

Just as you would venture to guess that Drai coming off of the EDM pp would result in less points, I would venture to guess that whatever other PP he moves to is instantly improved.
The post I replied to said that Draisaitl is "killing those other guys" in offensive production and is the clear #2 best forward in the league. I added the context that if other players, like Kucherov, got to play on the PP with McDavid that the gap would be significantly smaller or even possibly reversed. I never said Draisaitl couldn't improve other powerplays.

So you're agreeing with my point when you say "Other elite players would produce more on a powerplay with McDavid" and that's precisely the context I mentioned. We're in agreement then.

There is a difference between abstract reasoning and fabricating evidence to support your own flawed view. Before you go spouting anything about higher intelligence maybe you should learn what abstract reasoning really is and then apply it.
Nah, reread what I wrote and then ask your mom for help if you still don't get it.
It will be 50 by the end of the season. Just watch.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Was wondering when I would see someone jump out of the bushes with an uncalculatable formula.
Nah, reread what I wrote. I never mentioned any formula. Just the context of who players get to play with.

An assist on Drai’s goal gives him 147 points, which moves him into a tie with Bossy for 20th most points in a season.

Only 7 players in league history have scored more than McDavid.

His next 4 points with 4 games to go would vault him past three of those players; LaFontaine, Jagr, and Nicholls. Needs 9 points in his final 4 games to cross everyone except Gretzky and Lemieux. 2 games against the Sharks, 1 against the Ducks, and 1 against the Avs. It’s certainly still possible.

Most importantly of all, with another big win over the Kings tonight, the Oilers are 10-0-1 in their past 11 games and have bumped their season total up to 101 points, the second most in the West.

But don't you feel like 7 more points would be better than 9 points? That way McDavid could win the Ted Lindsay trophy while being tied in points with the Ted Lindsay. That's never happened before. Then he can come back next year with his true peak season and hit 160+ points.

I’m surprised the versatility of Drai over Kucherov didn’t help prevent these goals. He PKS and is better than Kuch defensively except when it mattered….
Unfortunately if you watched him in the playoffs you would know he was playing on one leg.

My point was crystal clear too. Kucherov is a 100 pt forward that wins playoff series with his versatility.

You're the one that brought up goaltending.
Oh wow he won those series with his versatility? Damn must have put the Bolts on his back!! Where are his Conn Smythe awards? The Bolts win both cups without Kuch.

After 150 points, the next milestone is either 66 goals to beat Ovie’s record or 156 points to take ownership of the highest points total outside of Gretzky and Lemieux.

He needs 9 points, including 4 goals in the next 4 games do accomplish the feat. Can he do that?

This is not so clear as it might seem. This year for example Kucherov has points on 84.91% of the pp goals that the Bolts score. Draisaitl has points on 70.59% and has in the past been under 70%. The reason for this is that he is more the trigger man on the pp than a guy who has the puck all that often. If a player is on the ice for more goals scored but his share of the points goes down it is not clear how his points are impacted.

The other issue that seems to elude the conversation is that if you replace Draisaitl with Kucherov on the Oilers pp and you change the dynamic completely. What is his role? Kucherov's pp numbers have been disproportionately assists vs goals. But now he won't be the guy who runs the show. He certainly would not explicitly replace Draisaitl's role since his skill set is very different. An more to the point would the pp still be as effective?? My guess is that it would not work nearly as well as it does.

The three key players on the pp are McDavid, Draisaitl and Nuge. They all have very distinct roles that combine to make the pp what it is. This did not happen over night. It took time for their games to mesh. It also took Draisaitl reinventing himself as a shooter rather than a primary pass first guy to fit with McDavid at ES but even more so on the pp. Would Kucherov have to do this as well and if so would he be willing. If you want evidence of how delicate this can be look at what happens to the pp when Nuge has been hurt. Despite the perception that he is easily replaced when he is not there the pp has dropped significantly. Over the last three years with the three together the Oilers pp has clicked at a rate of 14.22 GF/60. Without Nuge it drops to 7.85 GF/60. And I suspect that most would see Nuge as the third wheel in this group. If you go back further the pattern repeats itself though the drop off is less because the peak is less.

If the team guns for the conference and is determined to go 4-0.

He needs a 4 point night against the Ducks tonight though.

It would be amazing if he hit both those numbers. He seems to be playing more conservatively now as we get closer to the playoffs.

I’ll be happy with whatever path gets him to 1000 career points by the completion of next season.

Yeah, and I don't even think he's aware of either of these milestones. At that point, he probably figures it's best to conserve energy and be fresh and ready for the post-season. Those milestones are awesome but ultimately don't mean a whole lot.

Still would be really cool to see 156 points though.

McDavid gotta be trolling everyone at this point. Why bother hitting even 150 points? Maybe tie Jagr at 149 for good measure and be content, right? Or he's ascended to a new level of being a hockey player where points are meaningless.

If he does go scoreless in these final minutes, it will be just his 8th goose egg of the season.

Going into tonight, he had at least a point in 55 of his past 58 games.

That’s probably the closest we’re going to see to something like Gretzky’s 51 and Lemieux’s 46 in a row in this day and age.

I haven't seen Edmonton lately but I'm surprised he has slowed down for a few games.
The team is cruising, about to go like 10-0-1 or something. He may have put it into neutral for now. I doubt that’s it though. Just a slower stretch, for him.

If he finishes on 149, that Jason guy is going to immediately return, claiming he was right all along.

He looks a little frustrated. Weaving through four players, putting the puck onto Hyman's stick with an open net, only to watch him whiff on the puck yet again is probably driving him nuts.

Of course two minutes later Hyman scores and ENG from McD and Nuge.

I don't think Connor hits that 156 mark. They play LA tomorrow. That will be a snoozefest trapping game all night. Then he has 4 left.
He’s been so quiet since hitting 60 goals. he’s dialed it back a lot. None of that killer instinct we always see. if he did he’d probably already be at 156. Lol

It's just a game of Who's Line is it anyway, it's all made up and the points don't matter.

Amidst of all this offensive talk (tone down with the insults and pejoratives! jk...) the Oilers have low key been putting on a clinic at the defensive end: only two conceded goals in four games is huge for a team that's been plagued by lackluster goaltending and spotty defense. A huge confidence boost in that end as we're the playoffs are around the corner.

Point #148 ties with LaFontaine for 19th most in a season.

Has a point in 72 out of 79 games this season and in 56 out of his last 59.

Close call tonight. It doesn’t feel like it some of these nights with 150 so close, but he does have 24 points during his current 13 game point streak.

And the Oilers just keep rolling. 11-0-1 in their past 12 games. 1 point behind Vegas who does have a game in hand for first in the Western Conference.
