McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

IMO it feels like he's not going balls to the wall anymore. Happened since we clinched playoffs I'd say. Maybe dialing it back a little and as someone above said going into cruise control and the rest of the team (particularly Draisaitl) have picked up the slack. He'll hit 150 and call it a season

He's def gone into coast mode since hitting 60. If he really wanted say 156, he would have probably hit it by now. He basically has shut down that killer instinct mode we always see. But it'll return come playoff time. lol

It seems more like the team is practicing low event hockey before the playoffs vs him going into coast mode.

I've learned never to completely count McDavid out but 156+ (to join Gretzky & Lemieux) seems pretty out of reach at this point. I think he winds up with 64 goals (just short of Ovi) and 89 assists for 153 total. Still a completely ridiculous season but he'll have to wait til next year to join the big 2 in the 156+ club.

Most guys would love to have 8 points in their last 5 games, yet for Mcdavid it's just him coasting lol.

He's "checked out"....and has his team playing the best defensive hockey of the season.

Point and goal totals are fun for fans, but likely almost meaningless to most players who are hardwired to focus on one thing - winning.

I promise you McDavid would rather have 2 playoff points and a Stanley Cup than 56 points and lose in the finals. He would not care that 1000 guys on here say he sucked and how amazing Draisaitl or Shore or whomever was as long as they all get rings.

I don't think he is coasting. I think his teammates are not driving to the net or battling like they were before they made the playoffs, and this has created less room for him and more missed passes in front of the net. At that elite level, even when it is not a conscious decision, you start playing more careful, which means backing off when before you were balls out.

He looks a little frustrated. Weaving through four players, putting the puck onto Hyman's stick with an open net, only to watch him whiff on the puck yet again is probably driving him nuts.
Hyman has been terrible for the last 20 games outside of 3 or 4 games. Puckhogging in addition to his inability to finish chances.

McDavid's also being keyed in on every shift with everybody playing him like it's a game 7. The obvious obstruction being ignored seems to be frustrating him as well.

Needs to just get 150 out of the way at this point. Hopefully next game.

A little less history will be written by him than was maybe hoped and in the cards a short while ago. Especially the Avs' 1-2 punch MacK and Rantanen have spoiled McDavid's hopes for EV scoring titles. In EV goals Rantanen took charge last night and leads the pack with 41; Pastrnak has climbed to 2nd and left McDavid to third place with 37. This loss is practically over.

In EV points Karlsson has been neck and neck with McDavid most of the season. Last night MacKinnon rose to first place with a tie break. The duo leads with 73 EVP, McDavid has 72.

The Avs have five games left. They'll probably work on getting Rantanen to 100 points (at 98 now), MacK's 36 goals might be too far from 40 (which isn't that much of a landmark anyway). The Oilers with three games left still have a conference/division lead to aim at. In terms of individual points all I see is McDavid related (I guess Drai's repeating the 55+55 feat could be an obscure one). He seems happy with 150 points so I wouldn't be expecting much else. Yzerman is safe, Ovi likely as well.

Never heard of EV scoring titles until McDavid started torching the league.

McDavid should have waited to score his 7 short-handed points at even-strength to have a better chance at this highly regarded award.

Like that we're goiing to call it the 156 club to take away Yzerman being the only other player to hit 155 for whatever reason.

Yzerman currently has the title of highest scoring season outside of Gretzky and Lemieux, which is an awesome one to have.

If McDavid were to pass him, whether it is this season or any of the next couple, Yzerman loses that distinction.

It’s not about slighting him or omitting him at an arbitrary cut off point. It’s about McDavid taking the title from him.

That’s all it really boils down to.

I've never heard of the EV scoring title in my life

McD is so good people are making up races to compete against him

I'm sure people were making the same comments when Mario was torching the league in PP points too right? lol Give your head a shake. What a stupid comment by people who are trying their hardest to downplay one of the greatest seasons in decades.

The inferiority complexes are off the handles.

That's pretty crazy for MacKinnon to have that in only 64 games.
