McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

People talk about Drai being a product of McDavid when Matthews is heavily dependent on Marner which has been a known fact by now.
I think most know Matthews needs a set up guy where as Drai is an even better passer than shooter. Yet still has 3 50 goal seasons. Drai for me has cemented the fact he's number 2 in the league.

I dunno if Drai is clear #2 but he's in the conversation. Imagine Kucherov with McDavid...would be a similar dynamic. Or Mackinnon.

McKinnon sure but Kuch doesn’t have the versatility to take draws, play every forward position, kill penalties etc. drai does it all.
ehh I suppose but Kucherov has an insane offensive feel for the game, him and McDavid together would be every bit as good as him and Drai, prob with McDavid scoring even more goals though

That would be a good argument if McDavid and Draisaitl were glued together but they don’t play a ton together 5 on 5. You can’t split Kuch and McDavid and still have that insane 1-2 punch at center.

Draisaitl is one of the worst defensive players in the league, even by the standards of offensively elite players. He's number 2 in the league if all you care about is offensive stats and not winning games. He gets a significantly larger percentage of his points on the powerplay than anyone else in that elite-but-not-McDavid category, and he gets those by playing with McDavid, so it's not a stretch to say he's not significantly better offensively than anyone else in the top 10 for scoring (aside from RNH, who is absolutely a product of that powerplay).

I'd easily take MacKinnon, Kucherov or Matthews over him. Probably also Pastrnak and Point.

I could understand taking MacKinnon but not the others you mentioned. As for your winning games comment what's Matthews ever won certainly not a playoff series. As for the others I'm taking the centre over winger everytime unless the winger is just that much better. Kuch and Pasta are not in my opinion. Point isn't in discussion for myself.

Nope. Mackinnon would be injured 20 percent and kucherov 40 percent of the year. Lol
Not to discount the skill of Kucherov or MacKinnon, but Draisaitl has certainly shown himself to be particularly durable so far in his career. I mean, hell, he played the entire playoffs last year on one leg and still put up 32 points in 16 games.

But here is the thing. I really do not know who you would replace Drai with and expect the same production?

Would those guys for sure hit Drai's #'s? Maybe Kucherov? I don't know. I don't even know if guys like marner or Matthews would hit Drai's numbers just replacing Drai on Edmonton. I don't even think Mackinnon can hit Drai's #'s replacing him on Edmonton.

Drai produce and helps his team win. I always find it hilarious when people talk like all of these guys are Selke candidates. Drai is not a Selke player. He is still a positive player and kills most of these guys in production. When Drai is "on" he is great defensively. People overrate two play so much on these boards it's laughable.

Drai could have a 160 point season next year and you would have some guys smother the threads talking about how an 80pt player is wayyy better b/c he is a "monster" 2 way player.

A team is built with many different types of players and you hope they all mesh. Not every player needs to be a Selke player.

McDavid is done scoring. 144 is his ceiling.
What can we do if not giggle at our previous takes. Kudos.
He's been a bit quiet these last few games outside of the 3 assists. He needs a big game and some consistent 2 point nights to have a shot at 156. It could go either way but something's gonna have to give if he's gonna do it
Ya I was really hoping for 66 goals and 156 points but without a big night I don't believe those totals are coming. Which is unfortunate but the totals he'll end up with will still be amazing.

I could see Kucherov doing so. Maybe MacKinnon too. They're versatile and have more dimensions to their games than Matthews and Marner.

Matthews wouldn't because he isn't a good enough playmaker and Marner wouldn't because he's not a good enough scorer.

Only four teams have won more games than Edmonton this year (they are tied with four other teams at 45 wins). They are the leader by far out West in regulation wins and only trail the Bruins across the entire NHL. They’re tied for third in team goal differential.

What’s with the comments about Drai not helping contribute to winning hockey?

Strange how people will bring up the same few players from the same few deep teams (Tampa Bay, Colorado, Toronto) and not see anything odd about anointing them as better players than Drai who is the second most lethal offensive threat in the NHL and has been for years now.

Any way, to help keep it on topic, he and McDavid have 10 game winning goals apiece this season.

Except he doesn't "kill most of those guys in production" when you look outside the powerplay. Draisaitl on any other team (i.e. not playing on a powerplay with McDavid) likely has 20-25 fewer points this year and is right there with all of those guys. That was my point. Offensively he's not a clear #2 when you remove the McDavid effect, and defensively he's way behind.
