McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

6 points in his last 4 games is kinda weak.

Looks like he's a lock for 150 unless he gets injured though so good for him.

Just about time for him to finish with a heater.

Had 13 points in his final 6 games last season.
Had 13 points in his final 6 games in 2020-2021.
Had 11 points in his final 6 games in 2019-2020.

Last time he didn’t finish off strong was 2018-2019 when he had 4 points in his final 6 games.

Fingers crossed he can get the 12 points needed to cross Yzerman.

Yeah but this year he's been playing at that pace all year long(to his credit). It'll be interesting to see how much he's got in the tank, his production has slowed down a bit the last few.

I thought Jagr was a lock to beat Yzerman in '96 with the extra couple games. He had 130 points after 66 games(McDavid only had 124). They both had 138 after 72 but Jagr disappointingly only scored 11 points in his final 10 games failing to even reach 150.

Yzerman himself was at 134 and 146! at 66 & 72 before ending with 155, scoring just 9 points in his final 8.

Players with monster 140+ seasons always seem to end really cold. Bossy had 136 after 72 in '82 then finished with 11 in 8. LaFontaine had 134 after 72 in '93 before only scoring 14 in 12. And Esposito had 138 after 72 in '74 ended with just 7 in 6. The only exception being Esposito in '71 who had 141 after 72 and then added 11 in 6 before running out of games.

Nice work. However, I might argue that key differences are that McDavid is better than all those players and a real chance at a higher seed is in still play during these final two weeks, unlike most of the other high non-Gretzky/Lemieux seasons listed.

Examples are Espo/Bruins and Bossy/Islanders being assured of high seeds down the stretch while Lafontaine/Sabres collapsed down the stretch to almost miss the playoffs entirely and Yzerman/Red Wings almost lost their division.

Meanwhile, Oilers are white hot and show few signs of slowing down and McDavid has been scoring at such a high clip for so long, even before factoring in this phenomenal campaign.

Fully expect McDavid to complete the revised quest of 156 points.

All that being said, it’s all gravy once he hits 150. Won’t bother me in the slightest if he hits it right on the nose.

McDavid has been quite after 60 for a few games. Expect the fireworks to come out in the next week. 156 is still within reach.

It's funny watching the other team PP when McDavid is on the ice because you can just feel the anxiety from the other team. Players play way more conservatively because they're afraid to screw up
That was what it was like in the 80's with the Oilers as well. Gretzky played high on the pk and gave defensemen fits. If they pressed to keep the puck in the zone there was a good chance it turned out badly so they often gave up the blueline.

McDavid's speed creates havoc for defensemen. If he catches them flat footed or moving forward its all over.

150 was always the goal, once thought impossible or very low chance at the start of this thread. He made people believe he could hit 156 or 160, but I think that moment is gone. The more you have, the more you want.

I'm curious what he does next season and of course a strong playoff.

I do not believe that moment is gone but you're right everyone should definitely be satisfied with 150

LOL... I saw this article's title and believed it for a moment before remembering what day it is...

I was thinking, "wow, now people can't say he or other great players can get away with things others would be suspended for. This is probably the longest suspension of the season!"

Nah and he won't sniff 150pts. Isn't it this the third time he has a crazy pace to start the season and people start 150pts thread?

His ceiling is 130-135 and that's as many as a player can get in the modern era. No one touches 150.
Welp!

I can't help myself. Gotta find a few of these from pages 1-5.

It won’t happen. This thread gets made every year, and every year he slows down in the second half because of the grind and teams playing tighter hockey due to the playoff race. He’ll very likely finish between 120 and 130 again, as usual.

If he gets 130+, I’d be very, very impressed. That would basically be the modern day equivalent anyway. Nobody has hit 130+ since Lemieux and Jagr in 1996.
Ehhhhhhhhhhh hello from the future!

Where McJesus is on pave for over 150 points, still.

McDavid is NOT on pace for 150 points. Just stop already. There are other players in the NHL right now that are playing better then him against way better teams.
Grins in Oil :)

Be a shame if he hits 150.

idk why people act like players lose more energy when they put up pts  such a dumb ideology

I actually curious if he really thinks that much of the points. I mean probably as much as he needs to, but is he a guy really who sets certain point goals?

The Oilers are playing a key game against the Ducks tonight. They are averaging an incredible 4.04gaa...time for Connor to rack them up.
Oilers love to play down to their opponent, just how they like to play up to better opponents.

Expecting a 4-2 win for the Ducks.

Yea, you are missing something: the bad defensive narrative is usually propagated by people who do not watch him. One guy posts it, others confirm it, and then they use these posts as future proof that he is bad.

As a side note, here is what I read on the hfboards, usually with all three points coming from the same users.
-The Oilers have the worst goalie in NHL in Campbell.
-The Oilers defence is one of the worst in the league.
-McDavid is only +15 on the season, which means he is very bad defensively

I think that the first point is accurate. The second I do not agree with, I do not think that the Oilers D is at the top of the League nor at the bottom. Anyhow, if anyone truly believes that 1 and 2 hold then +15 is actually very very good defensive stat ;)
+/- is of course a flawed statistic, but if anyone claims that being + 15 when the second next best +/- among his team's forwards is + 11 shows the player is bad defensively then the claimant is overreaching to find something negative.

He's been a bit quiet these last few games outside of the 3 assists. He needs a big game and some consistent 2 point nights to have a shot at 156. It could go either way but something's gonna have to give if he's gonna do it

You know he's Connor McDavid when he's above a point per game and he's in a slump.
