McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

NHL.com with a blunder:
In reaching 60 goals in 72 games, he's the fastest player to reach the milestone since Mario Lemieux scored 60 goals in 70 games in 1987-88.

In 95-96 Lemieux scored five goals in his 62nd game to bring his total to 63 goals. There were likely at least two faster instances in 92-93, too. Then you have Brett Hull's three monster seasons that were also after 1987-88...

In his last 34 games, McDavid has been on the ice for 5 GF and 0 GA on the PK.

Insane.
It's funny watching the other team PP when McDavid is on the ice because you can just feel the anxiety from the other team. Players play way more conservatively because they're afraid to screw up

This was why a lot of teams used to play scoring stars like Gretzky and Lemieux or breakaway artists like Bure on the PK regularly, but teams seemed to go away from it the past 20+ years. I wish we saw more of it, especially since the the 4F, 1D setup is easier to exploit.

Needs 13 points in 6 games to surpass Yzerman.

Possible. But definitely going to be tough.
12*

Caught a bit of the kings game last night. He was very good defensively.

Not sure if im missing something but I don’t by the “bad defensively” narrative.
This is a narrative that only exists amongst Toronto fans who are trying to convince themselves (and everybody else) that Matthews is a better two way player.

I am hoping for 156 points and 90 assists. It is crazy we are even discussing a player hitting 150 points.

True, but to be fair there's hardly even a handful of players that provide that much of an effect. Mackinnon might be the only other one. Maybe Larkin too, though he's not quite the offensive force.

Yea that’s fair, it takes a certain kind of player with speed and skill. MacKinnon would be fun to see. The Devils did it with Kovalchuk before he left. I don’t usually put a lot of stock into PK time for top players unless they’ve shown to be particularly adept at it like Bergeron or Marchand or Marner. This is definitely another feather in the cap for McDavid as the best player.

Yea, you are missing something: the bad defensive narrative is usually propagated by people who do not watch him. One guy posts it, others confirm it, and then they use these posts as future proof that he is bad.

As a side note, here is what I read on the hfboards, usually with all three points coming from the same users.
-The Oilers have the worst goalie in NHL in Campbell.
-The Oilers defence is one of the worst in the league.
-McDavid is only +15 on the season, which means he is very bad defensively

I think that the first point is accurate. The second I do not agree with, I do not think that the Oilers D is at the top of the League nor at the bottom. Anyhow, if anyone truly believes that 1 and 2 hold then +15 is actually very very good defensive stat ;)
