McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

For a short span Maruk was one of the better offensive players in the NHL. That 136 point season was quite epic considering how bad the Caps were back then. Good news for me though since I had both he and Gretzky in my hockey pool that year. The money I won paid for my season tickets for two years.
The thing is that Maruk had by far his best season that year and it was 39 points better than the year before and somewhat of a fluke season.

McDavid has 32 (regular season) games with 4+ points.

This isn't a comprehensive list, but he already has more than these HOF forwards - Bob Gainey (3), Guy Carbonneau (5), Daniel Sedin (7), Clark Gillies (8), Cam Neely (10), Martin St. Louis (10), Henrik Sedin (10), Daniel Alfredsson (14), Marian Hossa (14), Bill Barber (16), Steve Shutt (17), Jacques Lemaire (17), Mats Sundin (17), Mike Modano (18), Pavel Bure (18), Brendan Shanahan (20), Joe Nieuwendyk (20), Paul Kariya (20), Mike Gartner (21), Jarome Iginla (21), Dave Andreychuk (22), Joe Mullen (22), Sergei Fedorov (22), Bernie Federko (23), Lanny McDonald (25), Peter Forsberg (26), Eric Lindros (26), Doug Gilmour (26), Michel Goulet (27), Pat LaFontaine (28), Bobby Clarke (28), Darryl Sittler (29), Dino Ciccarelli (30), and Glenn Anderson (30).

If you're including future HOF'ers he's also ahead of Patrick Marleau (9), Jonathan Toews (10), Anze Kopitar (10), Pavel Datsyuk (10), Patrik Elias (12), Patrice Bergeron (13), Henrik Zetterberg (16), Ryan Getzlaf (18), Steve Stamkos (19), Patrick Kane (19), Nikita Kucherov (21), Joe Thornton (28) and Evgeni Malkin (28). He's tied with Alex Ovechkin (32).

Those numbers include playoffs as well for the other players, don’t they? When I was going looking through some of the numbers neither Datsyuk or Toews, for example, had 10 regular season 4 point games…

But yeah, like I originally stated a page or two ago, the 10 4 point games that McDavid has this season alone are already more than several (turns out many) HHOF or soon to be HHOF forwards have in their entire regular season careers.

A couple examples that stuck out to me of just how prolific he’s been at having monster games on the stat sheet:

- Martin St. Louis is a 2X Art Ross Trophy winner and McDavid has as many 10 point games this season as St. Louis had in his entire career

- Datsyuk finished 4th in NHL scoring with 97 points back-to-back in 08 and 09 and yet only had one 4 point game during those seasons

McDavid, meanwhile, enters most games right now leaving you with the expectation that he’s going to have a 4 point game. And most of the games that he doesn’t you’re like, “man, he should have.”

Not taking away from McDavid here but it doesn't help that St. Louis won his 2 Art Ross in seasons where your average hockey game was 3-2.

And 40% of Lemieux's career points came on the powerplay. People like to slag McDavid for being a powerplay monger, but Lemieux was way more reliant on the PP for his points, but no one ever brings that up to denigrate Mario.

all this "Mcpowerplay" garbage that you see to run down McDavid is ridiculous, ALL good players feast on the powerplay, that's part of what makes them good, when you're a man down, they exploit it.
Which is what I think as well, ppl think Lemieux is some untouchable great god, but if you delve deeper you also see he played the majority of the full 2 min PP.

Clinching the playoffs might make them relax quite a bit as well. Last season the Avs clinched the playoffs, exhaled, and proceeded to lose six of their final seven games. That kind of thing would more than likely affect scoring.
It's a balance, an all time great season and gearing up for what will hopefully amount to a lengthy playoff run.

Well he also has the highest per minute scoring rate season ever at even strength in 1992-93 and another one in 1988-89 that's up there with Gretzky's best. He played a lot more on the powerplay and shorthanded many seasons so he also played less at even strength which gets forgotten in these discussions. Someone already showed all the work to prove it in the history section too.

Those were all regular season stats. See, for example, the reports for Datsyuk and Toews (both with 10 four-point games in the RS - both have one more in the playoffs, as does McDavid).

Not sure his engine is a concern. The guy is off the charts that way. It's the body. The way some guys have been going at him lately seemingly targetting the knees....
I hope the NHL is paying attention. It's gotten quite bad/obvious with players going after his knees. Not only have they failed to market this amazing season properly, but can you imagine if it came to an end because some desperate schmuck stuck a knee out to try and get a piece of 97 so they don't end up on a highlight reel?
