McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

It's almost like he's unlocked one of those glitch moves in the old NHL games that can't be stopped with the 5 hole shots. He probably has about a dozen that look incredibly savable that ended up as goals.

Seemingly every game I watch now he scores a five hole goal. Never seen anything like it before.

I'd wager he will surpass 1,000 career points (regular season) before the end of the 2023-24 regular season unless he has some kind of injury. In fact, people can actually quote me on that. Best player since Gretzky (and, to some extent, Mario), hands down.
McDavid is on pace for a crazy 157 points right now. The last time that happened was in 1995-96, a season that actually had less goals per game than this year. Lemieux coming off a season where he was limited to 22 games, put up an incredible 161 points at the age of 30. It also only took him 70 games to do it.

People forget how good Lemieux was, there is no extent McDavid is better than him other than health. Lemieux was on pace for 189 points in a lower scoring environment than today, and that was after injuries had already started taking a toll.

If the Oilers' playoff position is set with 2-3 games left, it will be interesting to see if the Oilers rest McDavid or allow him to go for a milestone like 150 points or 156 points.

So he's getting 150 in the next 2 games

Whats more impressive: 70G or 160P?
I think i'd prefer the 70G. Matthews fan club will be in shambles.
More like Oilers are losing 5-2 and 4-1.

Why not both?

He will play, and he should play.

This isn't a run of the mill superstar season here. McDavid is chasing history. It would be offensive to not allow him to do that.

If healthy definitely. If he happens to be nursing an injury or actually suffering from fatigue at that point in the season it might be a different story.

Today he reached 110 primary points (goals+primary assists) to pass Thornton's 109 primary points for the most since Lemieux's 125 in 1995-96.

Edit: As pointed out below, I can't add. 101 was the previous best, held by Jagr and Ovechkin.

Worth pointing out his estimated powerplay time for that season was around 7 minutes, of which he played with a peak Jagr who is even better than Draisaitl, and Ron Francis.

Not taking away from him either, but when you say that season was lower scoring you are talking like .02 lower or something, a negligible difference. That same Lemieux went on to put up 27 points in 18 games and McDavid just put up 33 in 16. All in all I would take this current McDavid over 1995-96 Lemieux in a vacuum. His two-way play is also world's better.

Are you sure he had 109 primary points? I thought it was 71 primary assists and 29 goals

Barely. Many calculations count the phantom goal awarded for winning a shootout as a goal in their averages. When you remove those (as you should since a player can't get a point on those phantom goals) you get 6884 in 2190 games (as of the numbers published on NHL.com right this second) or 3.1434 per team per game. 1995-96 had 6701 goals in 2132 games for 3.4131. That's a difference 0.02 goals per team over an 82 game season.

That's what I get for trying to do simple math in my head.
