McDavid heating up, what are odds on 150 points this season?

He tends not to slow down at the end. In fact just the opposite. His issues, like the team, seem to be in the mid November to early January period where they have on multiple occasions simply gone into the tank. During that period McDavid has had some health issues including on more than one occasion some bad flu-like illness. This year the team did go through the usual early slump but McDavid did not. He seemed healthy the whole year for a change but I also think it was his decision to focus on scoring himself that made a difference. When others , like Leon for example, were going cold or were injured he put the puck in the net himself.
I dunno wasnt he on pace to hit 150 points before? but slowed down a little. and yeah I know u can only slow him down so much McDavid doesn't so long without putting up atleast a point

You can look at his splits in the last two month of the year

2021-2022 28GP 15G 32A 48P = 1.71 Pts/gm vs 1.54 pts/gm, for the season
2020-2021 19GP 12G 30A 42P = 2.21 Pts/gm vs 1.88 Pts/gm, for the season
2019-2020 13GP 7G 13A 20P = 1.54 Pts/gm vs 1.52 Pts/gm for the season

He has had some big starts where very early his pace was insane but he always tends to finish strong.

I'd wager he will surpass 1,000 career points (regular season) before the end of the 2023-24 regular season unless he has some kind of injury. In fact, people can actually quote me on that. Best player since Gretzky (and, to some extent, Mario), hands down.

He typically hit a bit of a wall (by his standards) around January or so and then went crazy to end the season again

At least from what I remember
He usually has his yearly flu around December and it slows him down but so far this year even his body refuses to mess with him. He’s truly on a mission. Lol

Crazy point totals even in the early 90s. I won't get into Gretz or Mario because they dummied their peers but look at Yzerman

No offence he is a legend and one of my favourites growing up but I don't even think he was the most skilled on his team. Fedorov was but didn't have the heart that Stevie did. A little bias because Fedorov was my favourite player growing up but neither are in the same tier offensively as McDavid or dominated a game like he did

Oates is a prime example. Elite passer but not in the same realm

I’m right there with you. If I truly had money on it, I would probably lean towards him just falling shy, but if he ends this season with say 156, that’s more breathing room that makes me more comfortable thinking he gets point #1000 at the very end of next season as well.

In that scenario, he could see his total drop 7% from this season to 147 to achieve it.

Even if he doesn’t, I think it’s absolutely remarkable that his play this season has even opened up something resembling a realistic discussion that he could hit 1000 career points at the age of 27.

Collecting 303 points in his age 26 and age 27 seasons to do it is nuts…

But with health, he may actually do it.

Assists #75 and #76, personal best is 79. EV assists is the last remaining record to improve upon this season, having already smashed the previous bests in es goals, pp goals and sh goals as well as pp assists and sh assists.

Given that this is already McDavid's 8th season I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up as his lone absolute peak season - at least I'm fairly sure he won't break all his above mentioned personal bests in the same season again.

Would be cool to see a 164 or a 170 point season after this one, though.

He’s now at 1.9 PPG for the season - somehow improving his already absurd production.

Been 1.9 for a while now.

90 would be nice. Still strange that Joe Thornton would still have 2 higher seasons than that.

While scoring less than half the goals though. Pretty clear McDavid is the better playmaker.

Surpasses Teemu's singular best season

Surpassing rookie Selanne is a nice feather in his cap :sarcasm:
