This has been said about 4-5 times now, we need better content for this thread. Or we can just let this thread die off and go off into the sunset as it’s nothing game breaking, new or anything out of the ordinary that other teams aren’t also doing

Didn't you make the OG backchecking comment? My mans is backtracking harder than McDavid does

come in early just for Jack Campbell to let in weak goals

Oilers players are trying to get their confidence up before the season starts

I show up to work 15 minutes early every day.

I leave 20 minutes early.

2 weeks early? Nah I'm good. You're not my boss Connor, but you sure sound like you're my boss.
I definitely think a lot start coming ahead of time and its not a huge deal to do some warm ups on informal skates and workout together.

However I do agree that if I want to enjoy my days off! I want to enjoy my days off. Whole entire point of the CBA is to protect players time.

I think at this point you had so much time off already and you start getting bored. Probably don’t even know what to do with yourself anymore. So I think players actually love starting working out and skating two weeks early. It’s not a big deal.

what people on this thread are not realizing is, while optional informal captains skates have been a thing for years, McDavid has has not so subtly removed the optional and informal part. That definitely is out of the ordinary for NHL captains to do since they technically are not being paid and can't be forced to practice with their team before the first day of training camp. And very rarely, if not ever, does the entire roster show up for these skates, which the Oilers are doing this year.

Most teams do the Captains skates nowadays, but for him to tell the players that this isn't anything optional and informal that they can just skip, is what is different from past skates with all teams.

Maybe he should try to lead the team by back checking on a regular basis, instead of cutting a players time with his family short.

Someone should tell that to your coach Tortorella, who asked asked Flyers players to show up on Sept 1 two seasons in a row.....

Not sure if you know that or not as I don't know which you spend more time on - obsessing over the Oilers and trolling every topic that they come up in, or actually following your purported favorite team.

Pretty much. The ppl dismissing this and saying most teams do this actually don’t. They are always optional and most teams only have a handful of players show up.
Exactly

Majority of teams already have been doing this for years
informal skates are not new but most team’s don’t take advantage of it. Majority only have a handful of players. That’s it. Outside of maybe the pens show me all the “majority of teams“ where the entire roster is there two weeks early year after year? you aren’t going to find many. McDavid made this mandatory not optional and his teammates listened. 🤷‍♀️

MacKinnon had his teammates come to camp a month early, blew his stack 5 minutes in, and hasn't been heard from since.

Is Kane in early?

As Andrew Ladd when captain of the Jets was calling him out on Social Media when he was one of the only Jets not to come in early….

“ Come on Mellon we need you “
“Get your suit on”

Kane was too busy in Vegas/LA - Vancouver and was not in the Wpg group clique…. And was not buying in and being a team player…. as per usual for him.

Peer pressure from team mates as we all know it was it was his WPG team mates that forced the trade that finally pushed him out of WInnipeg. ( practice and shower / track suit incident if not playing well with others on the team)!
Kane was playing beer league in Edmonton. Over the summer

Imagine cutting your vacation short to visit Alberta two weeks earlier than you have to.

Oh no, cut your vacation short by 2 weeks and focus on your extremely well paid job when you were already off for months. How horrible! Oh and Alberta is beautiful. The Rockies, Banff National Park, Jasper, lots of stunning scenery.

Sure, but players prefer T&A and golf in the summer.

I don't remember Harry Potter doing this with his Quidditch teams.

Kane has been in Edmonton basically all summer.

The fact they've missed with the "two best players" is embarrassing.
Are you saying that having the two best players in a 32 teams league, is a sure fire recipe for success in a team sport where you dress 20 players plus a goalie with a head coach (that may be good or awful) who decides their deployment and what system they play? OK :)

90% of Flyers fans want him fired for this type of behavior.

Is he under house arrest!

He used to be such a “Jet setter”!!!

Keeping him one place used to be like herding a bunch of “Sabre “tooth lions!!

Every thing he did used to be a big event… much watch TV like when The Fonz jumped “The Shark” on Happy Days!!!

Speaking of Loan “Sharks” …. How did that bankruptcy thing work out….Did Kane get away with defrauding millions of $$$ from those banks…. Or did he get caught at the door leaving trying to skip out on the cheque…. And is now forced to pay up!

Pretty greasy “Oiler”!!!
