That's not true. Hockey is only locally played in Germany. Basically outside the DEL/DEL2/Oberliga cities there is absolutely zero interest in hockey, unfortunately.

So what, most of California knows **** about hockey. Still they have 2 good teams. Beside the point that I think you actually can build an interest, you still can get a program for cheap in the regions which have a hockey culture.

haha, oh yeah, same with the Ruhrgebiet. Although the Ruhrgebiet is basically "everything but football" nomansland

I think a big problem was that for close to 20 years German professional hockey was played without proper TV coverage. So the vast majority of Germans could only watch the international tournaments, and there they only saw their national team strugeling, which of course doesn't really help with getting people interested in the sport. So I'm happy that Red Bull invests now so much into German hockey (with the great free-tv DEL coverage on which they most likely don't earn a cent, and building a new 10k seat arena in Munich without public money).

You can't compare that. The Sharks and the Kings don't need to bother with youth programs because that all happens anyhow all over Canada and the US hockey belt.

Probably, atm we're even worse than Slovakia, unbelievable...

I was just kidding, no need for bitterness  I would appreciate it if no one reminded me of the horrible piece of garbage we are playing this year, and no, you are not worse than Slovakia atm :D

Saw a better replay of the hit on Ek. Guy does take a pretty good jump into him.

Should have just tucked the elbow and leaned into it rather than jumping. Would still have exploded Ekholm with his head down like that.

Bandy looks like ice hockey, with a ball, on a frozen soccer field. Is that more or less it?

It's far enough removed from hockey for Canada to lose 22-1 to Russia at last year's WC!

But i would say like you it is execept you arent allowed to hit somone i guess:D

I have no idea how Bandy looks like:p i have watch like 5min totaly in my life i find that game so boring.

Worst part of Bandy is that only Sweden and Russia are the countries competitive at it.

Teemu Selanne used to play bandy. I think it is big mainly in Russia and the Scandinavian countries from what I have heard.

Youth program is all about getting one. No climate excuses and as I stated Germany got culture, even if partial. Heck even in Sweden we got areas which are hopeless hockeywise.

You just don't get it, 99% of all Germans don't give a **** about hockey. And 99% of kids have no idea what hockey is, because there is close to zero coverage in the mass media. During the DEL Playoffs I had a look at the sports section of the main Sunday newspaper: 23 pages soccer, 2 pages Formula 1, 1 page tennis, 1 page basketball, half a page boxing and only 2 short lines in the 'Other sports' column about the DEL Playoffs.

Klingberg is awful

He is ok, to much focus on a offensive mistake. The least we need to do now is to punshing players that try tro create things. Offensive mistake I am ok with, there is always risk when you try to create. Defensive unnessary mistakes like against canada I am not ok with. The problem today is not mistakes, it is the overall play, I would happy take more mistake if it means that the player seems to want more. Now not many seems to really want to lead the team.
