GDT: May 5 • Slovakia vs. Slovenia

It is funny to read som primitive comments here. Refs had several bad calls on both sides. They were just bad, and not that they would have been biased.

I believe we beat them, not sure if a blow out though. With gabby and tatar in, you never know.. our playing style's gonna give them some odd man rushes..

Dang, you're crusty. Your team is improving and should be great in a couple of years, you shouldn't take this meaningless loss so personally.

We often play better as underdogs, so really not sure what to expect from Saturday. It could be a blowout win for Fins, or we shut you down and capitalize on rushes, who knows...

They just defended and played trap. You can call it controlling, I call it stupid if you try it from 1st period on with just one goal lead. Perhaps only choise if you are clearly weaker on material, but not sure it's exactly controlling, I think it's just fighting for your life. But they were very good defending, not playing bad, but giving the control of the puck at least for Slovaks.

Yup, he didn't play in the third.

The reporter asked Gaborik about him, whether he's okay and Gabby just kinda went - yeah, he's okay, well it's a team game, we were rolling 4 lines, blah blah.

He was just being nice and didn't want to say Kopecky was riding the bench.

Interesting stuff.
 
So what if it was a one goal lead. There were PLENTY of scoring opportunities, so what if only one went in? Slovenia in NO WAY held back, satisfied with a 1:0 lead.
 
We played like absolutely total trash for two periods, but the refs have made mistakes on both sides, so I don't really get the angry Swede here.

I'm far from being a fan of Slovenia, but it was obvious that the refs made a series of calls in favor of Slovakia and missed a couple of penalties on the Slovakian side.

It almost certainly wasn't intentional, but the refs did help you A LOT.

You could see he needed the confidence boost and im so glad he got 2 goals tonight :D

Referees are part of the game, just like the ice and the net. Yes, there were some bad calls on both sides and then there were some make up calls, but that kind of stuff just happens.

At the end of the day, it was the greatly improved play in the third period that got Slovakia their win. They were all over them from the first shift (no PP at that point) and Slovenian players just looked outclassed and slower than the Slovaks.

Anyway it's super fun reading all the salty replies guys, keep em coming! :naughty:

Thanks for saying this without any emotions unlike some others on this board. I saw bad calls on both sides, there may or may not have been more against Slovenia, but no way it was bias.
 
Kopecky was seriously horrible. I mean heavy, serious way that you rarely see in world championships. I think he's done for the tournament.. He looked liked beer league 4th liner with the puck at some point, took maybe one kick of skates when getting the puck, then just waiting how long it takes before some one takes the puck back..

Completely agree with you and fortunately the coaching staff has noticed this too and acted, but what puzzles me is what do we do with it going forward? I mean he is our captain, do we just bench the captain for the rest of the tournament? That would be cool in away.
