Unsurprisingly this was the most watched game in Finland so far in this tournament. Averaged 1.376 million viewers and peaked at 1.7 million.

why is he acting like that?

Because he made huge and clear mistake that every one could see in the TV, that led into goal and Canadian lead.

Then reporter asks "Why did your team lose the lead", "why did canada get that goal" ect.

She should've just said "You made a mistake that led into Canadian goal", so he would've got some sort of honest answer.

The point: She know the answer already, so asking "why that happened" isn't really a honest question, its a question that you already know answer for and you know it's going to hurt to ask it. If you don't talk honestly and straight yourself, why expect the other one will do that for you.

why is he acting like that?

Second intermission, not a happy camper after his big mistake... (Though some Finnish fans are speculating that he had a bet with Jori Lehterä about which one will give a more ridiculous interview - I love Lehterä's crazy deadpan humour, but it's not everyone's cup of tea in Finland.)

Btw, one must say for Kontiola that it was his hard forechecking that led to the decisive goal in the 3rd - would have been a happier camper then...

Very disappointing for Canada. Having the lead in the 3rd period and not being able to put the game away. I give props to Finland for not giving up and playing hard. I am not too surprised I think most Canadians believed this to be one of the weakest Team Canadas at the wrolds in a very long time. If they had made it to the finals I doubt they could have beat Russia (If Russia makes it to the final). They still played very well despite the lack of depth. Hopefully next year we will have more star power on Team Canada.

It wasn't Kontiola's mistake that led to the goal, although he did turn the puck over. Even Aravirta showed it on the intermission break that Mantyla jumped forward when he should've stayed at the blueline because Finland didn't have a clear control of the puck yet.

Turnovers happen. Defenders still have to defend in those kind of situations.

I'd like to see us bring better rosters too, but this tournament just doesn't hold any significance in North America. The only players who want to go are either young kids getting their first professional international experience or veterans who don't have any chance of making an Olympic roster.

Losing at the World Juniors hurts FAR more than a loss in the WHC, and neither compares to losing at an Olympic games.

I'd by lying if I said we didn't want to win, but you won't see any heartbroken Canadian fans because we didn't.

I hear you! i think it's the same here in Sweden... JWC and Olympic is the thing and WC is just something "funny" to watch not that i care to much if Sweden win or loss WC...

Really?

Olympic hockey is huge everywhere, but I've always been under the impression that the WC was Europe's stanley cup - that fans were glued to their TVs for playoff games, and that parades followed gold medal wins in the capital city.

The WJC, meanwhile, seem to be way down the list of European priorities unless perhaps they're the host team (like Sweden this year).

I'm under the impression that in Sweden WJC has become quite popular. Look at their collective reaction when Tre Kronors won their first WJC Gold in 31 years ( was it? ). The players were treated like rock stars, a nation wide celebration ensued, and even a few tears were shed, by their head coach etc...

In similar fashion, when TC wins WJ Gold it's front page news...Pre-tourney we Canucks engage in endless speculation over player selections/ omissions, yadda, yadda...

Comparatively speaking, senior WC is barely a blip on the Canuck Hockey radar. But why should anyone expect otherwise? At the risk of stating the obvious, WC comes during SLC playoffs + tourney has only been held in Canada ONCE in a Hundred *&%! Years...

I absolutely love Lehterä I was so pissed when I realized he is not going to be an NHL player. He would give hilarious interviews in the show. Opposed to the boring Toews/Crosby/everyone japping you here. The best part about him is that you can't tell from his voice wether he is joking or not. He would fool a lot of people.

Which says a lot about the quality of talent this year. This was, by far, the weakest Canadian team since at least 1995.

Without bothering to look anything up...I seem to recall we sent a team of AHLers that year ( pursuant to NHL lockout ), but the team still medaled ( bronze ) No?

This year's team had enough talent to medal SANS DOUBT...They outplayed Suomi decisively ( alas didn't show on scoreboard )+ beat two of the 3 teams ( Czech, Swe ) still in the running...

WC not big in Sweden? BS. Your not Canada. So much crying in this thread by canucks, you guys have some egos. Nothing is important still everyone watches the WC.

What always struck me as odd was North American teams using NHL coaches for these tournaments. At least make sure the coaching staff knows how to play the open ice and assess their players' strengths from that perspective. They're giving the EHT playing teams an upper hand on team chemistry / cohesion to begin with..

It's a good point...Course there are Canucks with Both Overseas and NHL exp. Ralph Kreuger, Andy Murray, Dave King, Tom Renney, Kennan, Simpson etc...

It is important for the most guys here. Cause you have to be at least bit passionate about hockey to join the HFboards. But the guy is right. Sweden cares surprisingly little about the WC. Media writes about it fairly much and even they make a semi-big deal about Fin - Swe games. But the majority of people in Sweden don't care that much about the tournament.

But I find it sad, not good or something to be proud of. World Championship tournament should be held every two year so that people would give more interest to it. But the cabinet gentlemen of hockey (IIHF) have been going for the money instead of the quality of the sport for a long time. That is the most sad thing. But I will never understand the idea of mocking some league/tournament/game just cause the absolute best of the best are not playing. For ****s sake, WC is nice hockey and if they get the officiating in order it might even be great hockey. If someone is not interested, it's their loss. I'll still gladly watch it. Just cause it's not NHL/Olympics doesn't mean there isn't quality on ice. There is.

I just hope the IIHF would get rid of the moneyhogging cabinet fatties who only try to milk as much money from the product as possible. That's how you kill a tournament.

In recent years, yes. In fact it seems to have started with that dramatic OT win in 2012, plus the excitement of hosting this year, while making the final for a third year in a row.

But Sweden seems to be the exception in this regard. I still don't get the sense that the WJC matters all that much to Europeans fans compared to the WC.

Canadians brag about their depth but when they lose continuously at a tournament that measures nations depth all they do is make excuses.

In this tourney, we lost a total of one game in regulation - by one goal, to another top six opponent; and another game in a shootout...Winning the rest...And In both games we lost, we dominated ( for the most part ) everywhere but on the scoreboard...

Now factor in winning 3 of the last best on best tourney's in a row, and 4 of 6 since 1998... and I think it's fair to say that Canada's position atop the international hockey landscape is still safe...

Personally, I value the WCJ very highly. But at least in Finland, you won't find many casual fans of hockey enjoying the tournament. It sucks. Cause it is one of the most entertaining hockey events there is. I guess it's cause casual Finnish hockey fans don't follow the NHL that much. Well, basically not at all. For me, one of the biggest factors in the WJC is the idea of seeing possible future NHL stars making their first impact. If you don't care about the NHL that might put the interest down for you.

That's what clinches it for me. Olympics in 2002, 2010, 2014, World Cup 2004 (vs. the losses in 1998 and 2006). Canada's pretty stellar at the top level where it matters most, so I'm content.

However im tired of seeing the "WC is not important in my country" used as a excuse for losing the tourney matches. Belive me its important for the players. Thats their job.

There is no question about it. I just wish Canadian super-stars would give more ****s about the WC. Cause it is definitely good for the sport. Let's face it, in grand scale hockey is a marginal sport. Canada is the leading hockey power and you guys have the biggest stars. Having your big stars competing would help to get more press/fans interested. In return, it would generate more players and more competition and the game of hockey would be a tad better. Can't blame the Canadian super-stars for not wanting to come, but I sure hope they would find interest to compete in the WC too.

100% correct. Every time I see someone saying "we don't care about the WC" I shake my head. The guys playing sure do care. Professional athletes do care about winning, always. If someone says otherwise, they have no idea what kind of person it takes to become a professional athlete.
