It's time to start talking about how bad the big ice is for hockey. It absolutely takes away skill, and is just about playing safe. If you need any evidence of this watch how boring the Olympics are now, and how often terrible hockey teams hang in games. Protect a small triangle around the net, and you can hang in games.

My props to the Finns, but they were absolutely not the better team today. Big ice is bad for good hockey, that's all that needs to be said.

Glad the NHL will never go this route.

Expand the distance between the goal line and the blue-line, by moving the nets back, and by moving the blue-line out a bit...as IIHF Braintrust, to their credit, are planning to do...and I think the lesser, kitty bar the door teams, will have a harder time keeping games close vs superior opponents...

Big Ice Hockey just needs to be tweaked a bit...to create a better on ice product...And, to reiterate, that's in the works!

Now factor in winning 3 of the last best on best tourney's in a row, and 4 of 6 since 1998... and I think it's fair to say that Canada's position atop the international hockey landscape is still safe...
3 of the last in a row?

What kind of an idiot puts Scrivens in when you could have started Reimer! Well thanks for the win Tippett!

.

Scriven's had been good / marginally better than Reimer in the round robin games...plus Reimer, when called upon to replace the injured Jonathan Bernier, in the Maple Leaf goal, was terrible...

Heck terrible isn't a strong enough word...

Neither. The system focuses on moving kids up through the ranks of junior hockey. More emphasis is put on hockey competition than skills development by the time kids reach 15. Once kids are in the CHL, they really function like NHL or AHL players, with a long season of league competition. By age 16, they either have the basic arsenal of hockey skills or they don't.

For once, I agree with you...
