It's time to start talking about how bad the big ice is for hockey. It absolutely takes away skill, and is just about playing safe. If you need any evidence of this watch how boring the Olympics are now, and how often terrible hockey teams hang in games. Protect a small triangle around the net, and you can hang in games.
My props to the Finns, but they were absolutely not the better team today. Big ice is bad for good hockey, that's all that needs to be said.
Glad the NHL will never go this route.
Expand the distance between the goal line and the blue-line, by moving the nets back, and by moving the blue-line out a bit...as IIHF Braintrust, to their credit, are planning to do...and I think the lesser, kitty bar the door teams, will have a harder time keeping games close vs superior opponents...
Big Ice Hockey just needs to be tweaked a bit...to create a better on ice product...And, to reiterate, that's in the works!
