Even if u factor in the value of a D1 scholarship, with 4 guys still in college. Another guy with no NHL resume about to be a free agent next year..., Jones and others still earning the NHL minimum, plus some journeymen, with , if memory serves, only one guy over 25 yadda yadda...These Kidz should be VERY Proud of themselves. combined Salary wise, there's NO COMPARISON btwn these teams. Had Yanks buried some of their glorious scoring chances, this game takes on a whole different complection. Russians looked very VERY vulnerable today; Brobovski saved their bacon.

Nope I won't congratulate Russians. They went 1-1 vs a glorified college team, and could EASILY Have lost BOTH GAMES...Big Deal

CONGRATS YANKEES!!!!

I understand your spewing all the Russia-hate, but why characterize the USA as if they were a bunch of little girls in the schoolyard? Those players who made up the "glorified college team" were the same age or even older than MacKinnon, and they (Larkin, Eichel) will be high first round-draft choices in the NHL. The rest were all good or very good NHL players, and they proved themselves to be worthy of a lot more respect than you were willing to show them!

NA seems to be in a world of it's own regarding ice hockey. Unless that part of your statement is supposed to be ironic.

This gets beaten to death but this tournament doesn't get as much buzz in NA as it does in Europe because every single year both the U.S and Canada are missing like 7-10 of their best players due to either being in the playoffs still or they say no. It's just a different mind frame I guess. I look at the Olympics as the bonafide #1 best on best. This tournament isn't and will never be a best on best. This may hurt some feelings in here but that's a fact.

It's partly why I laugh when others the other day were saying this is Canada's "dream team" Just completely misguided statements like that get me to smh.

I can't think of a team, unless you want to consider Austria and other lower-rung teams, that aren't missing some of their top players. Everyone is affected by the SC and injuries.

It wouldn't be if the NHL decided that it is the centre of the hockey universe. I don't think there is any other sport in the world where a professional league think's it is bigger than the sport itself and the governing body.

All the big NA sports roll that way. NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB. Pretty large money in all those sports so they act in their own self interest.

Sure, weak people never won't ))

Well NFL and MLB are not world sports in basicaly any shape or form. They are pure NA sports. Cricket is far more of a world sport than them.
Only NBA is sorta comparable. And NBA never said players cant come to World basketball championships or European championships. They only put a limit when those players can join their NTs. Some rare clubs may not b openly happy about it but they cant stop the players. On the other hand those championships are not done during the NBA playoffs either. Aswell NBA clubs acknowledge non NBA contracts and pay out cloases. NBA takes the best (for their style) senior players, but never get into a fight with FIBA or demand anything of them either.

NHL is the only league that pretty much deals the cards as it wants. Starting from takeing juniors or even players from EU clubs without compensation, and except for sweden and KHL doesnt acknowledge contracts. Kinda feel NHL is more stiffening the growth of hockey for its own gains. Oh and ofc the issues with iihf and blackmails of not releasing players to future Olympics and all that.

It was 4-0 dude. Would have been a wider margin if our coach knew what he was doing.

Tut tut, a group of glorified college kidz outplayed and outchanced the vaunted Big Red Machine, over a two game span, for 5 periods outa 6. Bobrovsky and LUCK was all CCCP had going for them, until right near the end. Color me thoroughly UNIMPRESSED

LUCK + Bobrovski's heroics won't save ur Boyz tomorrow...RUSSIA WILL BE TOASTed and Roasted in Golden Maple Syrup...

OH CANADA BAByyyyyyyyyy.

pulling for the U.S. to come away with the bronze tomorrow....

Should be two good medal games.

Sadly ex-NTDP ( Gold or Bust ) Boyz will mail er in....Not purposefully, but insufficient recovery time ( late game vs early one for opponents ) , plus a seasoned Czech squad anxious to send Prague and Jagr off in a blaze of glory, will be The Perfect Storm, battering those glorified college boyz from pillar to post...Won't be pretty...mark my words

But on the bright side...virtually nobody Stateside will know or care...

Au contraire....u misunderstood... I have tons of R-E-S-P-E-C-T for the likes of Larkin, Eichel , Jones et al. NHL Brass willing, Their chance for the Brass ring, as in OG Gold, Will Come.

It was a star laden Russian side being schooled for 40 minutes by youngsters I was disparaging...And being schooled in the round robin game for 60 minutes, no less . Had Yanks buried a few of their many, MANY glorious chances, and had Bobrovski not stood on his head...This is Miracle , The Second Coming!

Crosby had 16 points in 9 games at 18:naughty:

^^^ This. ^^^

I have not posted in a while but I needed to say something after watching Eichel play in this tournament.

When he did not perform at the WJR's, all his apologist blamed it on coaching and the fact that he was the center of the team.

Now, at the WC, he was suppose to excel, without being the centerpiece, against weak teams/players and he had only 6 points in 9 games. The current excuse? He's "too young".

Too many posters keep claiming he is a generational talent. In fact, one American poster claims he is one of 4 "American generational talents" in the next 3 years - perhaps that posters needs to look up "generational talent" in the dictionary.

Look...

I know the kid is talented. I know he has all the tools. I know he won the Hanna Barbera Award as the top U.S. NCAA hockey player - for whatever that's worth. All I'm asking is for the American posters to tune down their expectation. Just a bit. I mean, wouldn't it be nice, for once, to have a player exceed your expectation instead of having to deny, deny, deny and make excuses when he disappoints?

Just my 2 cents.
