If you compare Finland and USA on paper, they even aren't all that much apart. It's not like our few NHLers are exactly superstars either, so calling USA's players "bad" is pretty much calling some of our key guys bad as well. Other than goal where Rinne obviously blows away whoever USA puts between the pipes, the teams are pretty even.

Chemistry will likely be the deciding factor. Finns obviously know each other well and have had chance to gel more by camping together over the past few weeks. USA comes into this game having played one exhibition game vs. Austria. So Finland seems to have the advantage there, but we'll see.

Great post. I find it funny how many are predicting an easy win for Finland based on the rosters. I think Finland will win because of the chemistry aspect, as well as their familiarity with the game on international ice. They basically don't just show up to the tournament like Team USA.

WE GONNA SUCK AT THIS TOURNAMENT!!!

One world class goalie is not gonna be a difference maker
when you have a horrible head coach and soft players.

We don't have that necessary physical presence nor the speed,
not this year, this year we have too many slow players in this team
and that's gonna cost us in the d-zone.

---

USA gonna play that typical fast pace pressure game and out work
us in 1 on 1 situations.

Only chance we have, if USA players take stupid penalties,
that's usually the international tournament problem number 1 for
NA Teams.

On paper, yes, and especially if they would be playing on small ice with NHL rules, and the USA having had some actual preparation time. As things are, I think we are clear favourites, but it won't be onesided and a US victory wouldn't be a total surprise. Still I think those odds are pretty accurate:

Eichel is going to run rampant and breeze past the slow and small Finland D... I just can't understand why Ristolainen didn't make the final team man... Absurd. But yeah, USA defense is much better, forwards seem somewhat equal in quality, and obviously Rinne is much better than whoever is starting for team USA. I'm gonna say that USA will have slightly more shots but the score is gonna be 3-3 in the end of regulation.

Man USA's forwards look horrific, looking forward to seeing Eichel though, first time watching him in a real match

Don't know too much about finland D either but that's probably down to my ignorance. With Rinne in goal and USA's apparent lack of firepower I gotta go with the fins

This us forward lineup is...something else. I guess the american pride in country first doesn't extend to the hockey community lol. Hopefully the new generation coming up (Jones, Eichel, Hanifin, Matthews) lead by example and keep signing up when they are available.

Is there gonna be any american/canadian stream for this game? I can't stand the swedish television after WJC... really loved the TSN streams

Brock Nelson and Anders Lee were added but I don't know if they will make it in time for the 1st game. With those two added I feel a bit better about the forwards.

Finland is a tough out no matter what the age group. Probably going to see not having a camp for the US will hurt this 1st game. The US better stay out of the box, this killed the US last year against the Czechs.

Nelson and Lee must be great additions for you.

I look forward to seeing Ruutu flattening Eichel :)

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY YOU WOULD PLAY A TOP PROSPECT HERE?!!

3-1 To either Finland or USA. Hopefully Finland.

Any one have a guess on the US lines?

TEAM FINLAND:

Tuomo Ruutu-Petri Kontiola-Juhamatti Aaltonen

Jussi Jokinen-Aleksander Barkov-Joonas Donskoi

Antti Pihlström-Jarkko Immonen-Teemu Hartikainen

Janne Pesonen-Joonas Kemppainen-Ossi Louhivaara

Sami Lepistö-Juuso Hietanen

Anssi Salmela-Esa Lindell

Topi Jaakola-Atte Ohtamaa

Tuukka Mäntylä-Jyrki Jokipakka

Pekka Rinne ( Juuse Saros)

Good! Happy viewing in that case. You get TSN's B crew broadcasting the games in Ostrava though. I don't even know who they got there doing the games.

Haha i think it can be your TSN Z crew and still be better than the Swedish ones:laugh:!

Thanks again :)!

They just confirmed this lineup. Komarov, who was supposed to play where Hartikainen does, was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.

Isn't Barkov pretty much a prospect still?
By age, yeah. By experience, at least less so than Eichel.

Though I don't see why mattihp figures Eichel would look so out of place in the US roster. We've seen these top draft picks make an immediate jump to the NHL and carry their weight, so there's no reason to assume why they couldn't handle a little WHC action - even if these are technically the first senior pro games they'll ever participate in.

I don't doubt his ability, but I feel it is quite odd to let him play his first senior games in the World Champs, before he is drafted. It might hurt his draft position if he sustains an injury against one of the worse teams that goes lumberjacking.

Everybody's talking about USA forwards, but nobody notices that their goalies are garbage. Maybe the worst of the tournament.

Ryan Murray played in the WC before he was drafted, didn't he? And he was drafted second overall.

Holy moly! Didn't even look there.

Donskoi snipes from the boards should do the trick. Maybe Salmela can wind up his super slow slapper for these guys too!

Interesting to see how are our stars Kontiola and Aaltonen this year. Both had not so good seasons
Kontiola yeah, but Aaltonen was "only" Jokerit's third most effective forward with around 0.75ppg, so I don't really see what's "not-so-good" about that. It wasn't superb, but sure as hell not something you'd call bad or even subpar.
