I was definitely not a fan of the trade. Just a pointless one for me. But there is undenying he's on fire right now. Is that a hot streak or is it the real deal? I'd tend to think it's just a streak but hopefully I'll be wrong.

I agree with your cautious optimism. He's never performed at this level in the NHL to my knowledge and certainly not as a centerman. He looks like he can play a 200-foot game and doesn't look out of place at center. I think these elements of his game may well be real. What I am skeptical about is his scoring ability as he's experienced significant droughts in Zona -- I'd like to see if he can remain a threat during most of the rest of his games. Well done so far and that's as far as I would take it.

I drafted him in my hockey pool 2 years before he got drafted. Its a pool where we have to draft prospects before they get to the nhl. Kotkaniemi has also been in my pool for a full year before this draft. I watched them play, and i dont know if you do or dont, but i'm entitled to be confident about my gut feeling because he's passed the eye test (for me) and he looked bored in arizona.
sure, just like the guys who followed Armia outwest, or watched tons of Detroit games cause they loved Tatar so much...

it's just a coincidence people (and not only you) happened to follow players who magically became Habs. and it's a coincidence none of them were talking about said players before they became Habs.

I mean, sure, you watch all Habs games, tons of other NHL games (not just highlights, you FOLLOWED him you know), tons of european leagues games as well(same here, not just highlights)... like everyone else who, by coincidence, happened to be following players who became Habs.

Agree, I don’t expect Domi to turn into a 40 goal scorer but in the realm of the shit show we’ve witnessed here in the last few years, it’s quite the relief to see a player come in via trade and do well.

I expect a 18 goal, 50 to 60pt season from ol Max......this player is really starting to grow on me :)

And I like his diabetes angle too, always easy to root for these guys.

Ya I think it's too early to tell. Everything just seems to be going perfectly for him. Let's see how he develops as months go by, but I doubt he ends with 80pts.

I'm sucker for an underdog, like everyone else I guess. He can certainly be an inspiration for kids who are confronted by the same disease.

This guy has a much better shot than I realized. Very impressed with the two goals he scored last night. Keep Shooting Domi!

Also curious about how we assemble our center depth next year when Poehling is likely ready. Domi impressing at center has changed things a bit. Domi, Kotkaniemi, Danault, Poehling, Suzuki. Suzuki likely moves to wing and do we play Poehling as our 4th line center next year?

Kotkaniemi
Danault

AHL
Poehling and Suzuki in AHL for 1 year +

So what if Poehling don't look out of place next year like Kotkaniemi does this year? We send him to the AHL regardless?

Of course not, but it is what I believe he will need coming out of college where they only play about 40 games. He will probably need to get used to the pro game. If he comes it and shows first line potential, then it would not make sense to sebd him down. Just don’t see that happening. Could he hold on for the 3/4 center ... maybe.

I’d rather him have an offensive role on a top line under the tutelage of Bouchard than 4th line minutes with no PP time here.

I doubt he pushes one of Domi, Kotka or Danault out from the C position

I was being sarcastic. Why are we playing Kotkaniemi as a 3C but we prefer Poehling to start in the AHL? If anything, Poehling has the more NHL size body and suited for the 3C role. Don't get me wrong, I value Kotkaniemi as a center more but it seems weird that we would handle them differently when one guy is more filled in vs the other.

If it was me, both of them would be in the AHL to start the year next year. Kotkaniemi would be on his way to Finland today after his 9 games. Not because he is not good enough, but because I value him having more time to get stronger and playing #1C with a more offensive role while we don't burn either his ELC or RFA years when he is 18 and "not looking out of place".

Nice to see he has score more goes so far this season that he did all last year with a goalie in the net!

The real keeners make a point to actually mention this stuff before it happens, like I did with Boone Jenner in another thread. That way if we do get him and he comes here and becomes our 1 C like I said he could then I look like the genius I am.

I think they are keeping KK up because of his positive impact on the team. They are also gambling that he will continue to improve here quickly, as he adapted very well after rookie camp. And lastly, Bergevin needs to save his job.

Ideally, he would have been given another year to develop, but we still have until game 40 to make a decision. He might just be getting the Mete treatment, with the hope that by the start of December we are still in the playoff race. KK being us is not bothering me so much. Looking forward to Weber being here to see if we can be a playoff team.

I was just thinking about C position last night as well. May give us the luxury to let Poehling and Suzuki gain confidence playing top line minutes in Laval. Not always a bad thing.

I wish people would stop with that bull****.

No one ever talked about him here when he was with the Yotes cause nobody watches the Yotes and nobody cared for Domi. Now that he's a Habs there's people claiming they followed him and liked his game since he's 8 years old or something.

come on now...

I know I was impressed by this kid when he was in juniors and he blew my socks off at the Junior Championships and yes I watched some of his games in the desert. But of course you know better cause you can talk out of your ass.

There were a few of us when the trade went down who said he was a much better player than his record showed but you didn't read those posts. Did ya? Wanna know why. I'll give you one guess. It has to do with your special talent.

I would have a tank strategy approach this season and even next season and I would keep our major prospect assets away from it. I know people are happy about the rebound/pride season but it's not helping us win a cup. We can have a season that results in a bottom 10 spot and also play our youth. Scherbak, Hudon, Mete, DLR are not getting the ice time and opportunity they should be getting cause we are trying to win games. We ended up losing DLR because we are in a rebound/pride season. Might not be a huge lost but could be. It's anybodies guess at how good DLR can be in a bottom 2C role in the future.

I'm not upset with our current team and direction but I am very concerned with middle of the pack strategy. A top 10 pick vs a 10-20 range pick. What does this team need more?

Domi is awesome. Glad people are eating crow. A brilliant deal from day one. People may not like all the attitude talk, but it most definitely makes a huge difference.

Meanwhile, on the Coyotes board, some are already wondering if Galchenyuk wouldn't be better used as a winger.

For sure...Domi 10 points in 9 games. Galchenyuk 1 assist. Goes to show how much the so called "experts" on this board know. They all condemned the trade to the lowest.

Loved this trade from the start

Galchy had so much talent but he became lazy and was partying (seen him doing some nose candys)
He couldnt be center bcuz he had no energy. He was dragging the entire team down with patches

Domi is a guy like gallagher who works hard every night and wont get involved in the mtl night life

Great trade
