Seeing how powerplay points are essentially meaningless, it's always surprising to see how much whining there is whenever one's favorite team fails to score on man advantage. It's almost like it matters sometimes.

Yeah, PP points are meaningless when people talk about other teams and players, but when they talk about their teams and players, PPPs are very meaningful.

Pacing for 69 pts as a rookie on an awful squad . Pretty pretty good . Ppg was unlikely to happen out of the chute but 60 ish pts would be an excellent outcome given the situation ( I’ve been pretty consistent on this point ) .

16 points in 19 games on a team without a ton of offensive talent. That's excellent given the circumstances.

I'd buy the argument about PP points if he were riding shotgun with the likes of MacKinnon and Makar, but he's actually leading his team in that regard...as a 19 year old two months into his first season in NA. The nitpicking just comes across as salty. Everything we've seen so far suggests top-10 upside, maybe higher if he can improve his skating.

Not meaningless, just less impressive than 5-on-5

How so? Do PP goals count for half a goal? Are powerplays not coveted scoring opportunities? Do good special teams not force your opponent to be extra cautious not to get penalized?

It seems to be another widespread myth like that if you are good defensively, you must 'sacrifice some offense' that is very persistent, but nobody can explain why.

I'm saying it's a lot easier to score goals and pile up points when the other team has one less player on the ice. Obviously a goal is a goal on the scoresheet but it's a lot more difficult to score at 5-on-5. Isn't that obvious?

In general, but some players are better at generating offense on the pp than others and some are better at 5 on 5. If two players both have 100 pts and one is a lot better at 5 on 5 and has 70 points at even strength and 30 ppp and the other is a lot better on the pp and has 50 and 50 what difference does it make?
