Late to the party, but fwiw, PRP treatments have been available in Toronto since before 2018. I know this because I received it before 2018 the year I had both knees replaced. Making this comment on pg 13 of thread, if this is repetitive, sorry.

I think it's safe to say the start of the Matthews Captaincy hasn't gone according to plan.

Another mysterious ailment has the team's leader out. His wrist or shoulder or whatever the hell else might be wrong with him. You never know what's real and what's not with this team.

For all we know he's got an ingrown toenail.

I'm not saying Matthews is fragile. He hasn't hit official band-aid boy status yet. But he is in training.

Whatever it is that's bothering him I hope he gets better soon. Matthews is easily one of my all time favourite Leafs players. But as the old saying goes the best ability is availability.

Last thing this team needs is a Landeskog wannabe for Captain.

True, fans don't need to know the issue that had him in Germany.

There is a reason he went to Germany.

It isn't nothing.
Wealthy people go to Germany especially for acute care .
A consult can be done on ZOOM
in fact robotic surgery can be done remotely
I'm not buying .but hey I'm just a retired pipefitter

What are the differences?
He said it had to do more with Stem Cell treatment and PRP than anything...we can't manipulate the PRP in canada while it's allowed in Germany. By manipulation, they mean that you can add enzymes to the PRP and let your own stem cells grow for a while before being re-injected into your body. Canada says you can take the blood and spin it but must be re-injected the same day to give you the plasma. It makes a rather large difference from what I read. The gold standard is stem cell treatment...so he probably went there for that IMO.

There's lots of treatments you can get internationally that you can't get the equivalent of here. Recall that Jordan Peterson went to Russia to get detoxxed from benzos. I'm sure a man of his financial means would have preferred the equivalent treatment here if he could have found it.

If everything was progressing well, as Tre said, he wouldn’t be flying all the way to Germany. It doesn’t make sense.

Yeah because he wanted to be put into an induced coma because he was too much of a wimp to go through withdrawal.

Considering he was only taking 4mg a day, or so he says, it was an extraordinary treatment no doctor who values their licence would approve.

Should they not put him on LTIR and save cap money?

You don't really save cap space by using LTIR, all it does is allow you to go over the cap. Leafs don't need the cap space and Matthews hasn't missed enough time to exceed the LTIR minimums to be activated in the event that he's ready to go next week.

Well…get the best treatment you can. They seem no hurry to get 34 back and the schedule is light now.

They have invested a lot of money into 34 so why not try to see someone that 34 trusts.

Will this linger his whole career? who knows but that’s professional sports…playing with injuries.

Get it right and come back ready to rock

Thanks, do you know what part of the body that they're working on?

Wasn't really looking to get into a debate about Peterson, I was just making the point there are treatments available internationally we can't get here. I've heard from many sources Tutkey is the No. 1 destination for quality hair transplants now. I'm thinking of having my shins re-done after the big gasoline fire incident of 2021.

Sounds like he's in a fair amount of pain. That seems like an overkill procedure if the goal is to simple fine tune some light inflamation. We have advil for that.

I don’t agree. All the secrecy around the player isn’t going to stop a guy from hitting Matthews his first game back and other teams aren’t going to lower their price on the trade market because they already think they have Toronto over a barrel with Matthews out anyway.
It's still a very different conversation & scenario if everyone knows Matthews is out long term.
By all accounts, Brad works the phone more than most GMs in the league and is in on everything - it's business as usual as far as other GMs are concerned if he's calling and checking in regularly about certain players. Not really Toronto being bent over a barrel.

If you got enough money there's a "doctor" somewhere in the world crazy enough to perform whatever insane procedure you ask for.

The plane probably has a hot tub and a mini bar………it ain’t no hassle

Maybe it’s rehab……a 12 step program away from prying eyes
Not sure if this is sarcasm, but I've kinda heard some rumours it could be along the lines of players assistance. I'm not saying I believe it, but I'm not completely ruling it out either.

Organization handling this the way they are isn't helping matters, fuels speculation.
