I read some article that said that Malkin would be on the trade market after this season and that the Canucks would be interested...now, I love Malkin and wouldn't put it past Jimbo to try and get him to speed up the reboot, but I really hope nothing dumb like that happens.

Malkin definitely won't be on the market. Just Kypreos and co. speculating. If he is and the Pens never make it back to the finals, you already know what'll happen. That's just a trade just waiting to blow up in Rutherford's face.

Honestly though, picking at 5, if Benning believes in Logan Brown I wouldn't be pissed at all thinking about it now. His previous picks suggest he knows what he is doing and if he thinks Brown is a potential first line centre - I'm all for it.

Has Benning reached in the first round?

Boeser wasn't a reach
Virtanen wasn't a reach
McCann wasn't a reach
Would he really reach with the highest pick we've had since the Sedins?

IMO, the only way I see Benning taking Brown @ 5 is if Dubois is gone and he really wants a center.

I'm not 100% sold on Brown either.

But the way Button talks about him makes me optimistic enough that if we pick him, I'm willing to give him a season. Brown's passing ability + Boeser's scoring ability would be fun to see if those 2 have some chemistry if we do draft Brown @ 5.

if this is true (which i'm not sure i trust dreger), this is 100% aquilini's doing.

I don't trust Dreger either but as much as the playoff mandate is clearly Aquilini's, I certainly wouldn't exonerate Benning and Linden. They know that's the wrong move to make and sometimes you have to take a stand as Gillis did at the end.

Shame on Aqulini, fan apathy and empty seats are bad now but if it is true and they gamble and lose on this move it will be near impossible to get the Canucks brand back to where it was several years ago.

I think it's pretty obvious what's going on here, actually. Benning has heard Dubois is going at 4th overall, and he's never really had much legit interest in Tkachuk. He wants a centre so now he's zeroed in on Logan Brown. He knows he'll cause a damn firestorm if he drafts for need and not BPA, so he's looking to trade back a couple spots to cover his butt.

He has praised Tkachuk on numerous occasions. I believe he has said that he sees him as a 1st line LW.

comes back to trusting his ability to draft

If he had taken my guy Ehlers I'd be on board with Logan Brown if indeed that is his target and would fully endorse an attempt to trade back

however the tweet is him trading 5th overall for CURRENT help and that's something I'll never trust Benning with. His ability to evaluate pro talent is dreadful

And I would not be okay with that. Logan Brown should never be considered ahead of Matthew Tkachuk. Ever.

I think you fail to recognize how good of a prospect Logan Brown is.

PLD is better then him. Tkachuk is probably still better then him. But Tkachuk isn't replacing Henrik Sedin. So reaching for Brown isn't even that bad.

I went onto the Oilers draft thread to ask them what their general consensus pick was @ 4 and they seemed undecided but one poster said the team seemed to be leaning towards Tkachuk

I'd be happier with Keller than I would be Brown. It at least shows that they put elite skill as a high priority over size.

I still want Dubois or Tkachuk but I could understand the reasoning for taking Keller over Tkachuk if that's how it played out.

Jim just stop, let us have one thing to look forward too. You still have the CBJ 2nd and 2017 2nd, play with those.

It's going to be a long 2 weeks.

Of course. Tkachuck is the clear #4 could even be #3 which hes closer to then falling to 5

Is Brown that much better Jost ? i dont really follow the hype he's getting lately. That said , it would be a travesty if he got selected ahead of Tkachuk

I have a feeling the Oilers take Tkachuk and we take Dubois. If the oilers trade the pick I might start to get nervous about the possible chain reaction of Dubois going 4 and the canucks passing on tkachuk/trading down.
