Carolina can do all three of those. Necas would be the top 6 forward we'd want to trade. We'd need some salary retention though. I see us as at least a little more likely than Vegas who journalists and hockey commentators keep mentioning as one of the teams linked to Tkachuk.
Calgary isn’t retaining on whatever Carolina signs Tkachuk for. Who on the Carolina roster would be a salary dump back to Calgary who doesn’t have a mntc that would waive to go the other way?

KK? But then they’d be short a C.

You do know he will want 9-10M? There is a cap in this world.
Yes but with Miro Robertson and the Benn and Seguin contracts. They can’t afford Tkachuck and Hintz. I am giving up the 8 million or so that Hintz will want for the 9.5 for Tkachuk

70pts is exactly the definition of “not much more than a 70pt player” so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make here
Do you really not get that he put up 77 points playing with a 4th liner and 3rd liner offensively? How can someone be not much more than a 70 point player in a top line role when he was more than that on a shutdown line and put up 104 on a 1st line?

I`d rather bridge Hintz again for 6-6,5M for 2yrs after next year. Benn will then be off the books. Hintz and Robertson play well together and Hintz will only get better. You need a center.

So what happens if Calgary trades Tkachuk Before his arbitration hearing?

Does his new team have to take him to arbitration since Calgary elected arbitration?
And if not, what are the possible options to have him signed by his new team?

My guess is that he's traded with a new deal in place. If a new deal isn't in place, the Flames are going to get kneecapped on value.

I doubt there will be a trade without an extension agreed upon. There would be no hearing.

If Matt ends up with an arbitration award it means that he can’t sign a new deal for 23-24 and onwards until Jan 1. Making it more difficult for Calgary to get value as the other club would want a new deal with Matt as he is walking through their door. So the return would plummet.

It was an error. I did it off the top of my head. Who cares? lol

Eichel has been a loser since he joined the league. He helped turn Vegas from a cup contender to a non playoff team.

They do not hold similar value.
It doesn’t matter. Buffalo had five years to make a move on Eichel. Calgary has 3 weeks.

Calgary has a healthy 40 goal/100 point player to shop, Buffalo didn't.

How did they have 5 years? Hasn't Calgary also had 5 years to trade Tkachuk?

Correct. Puts a timer on this move for sure. At that point, I'd actually just be curious if they hold him until January.

Eichel is a center and yes he had 100 points but calgary has very little control in this situation and if he isnt dealt to a team he wants he will not sign. So they either settle for what Matty wants and get what they can, or calgary/team traded to lose him to free agency for nothing.

Also a side notes, Robert thomas is Matts best friend. He wants to play with him again. Some insiders already stated that its pretty much a done deal. We shall see though.
What people forget is that Matt Tkachuk just had his career year. If he accepts his QO and has a shit year next year he’s going to lose potentially 10 million or more. Whether he signs with Stl, or an upcoming team like Detroit, Anaheim or NJ, the incentive he has to sign a long term deal is large. If the flames don’t get a deal they won’t trade him right away. He regobuzes that risk. I guarantee it

Because he also had just 43 in 56 the season between those, was still getting 1st line minute ice time, still getting plenty of PP time with a great offensive player.

He may flirt with 80, but he’s definitely not an elite offensive producer worth 10+M IMO.

Plus he’s been complete garbage in the playoffs.

He wasn't getting 1st line time in the bubble season. Are you under the impression he was playing with Gaudreau? He played with Gaudreau for a 10 game stretch after Sutter came in. He played mostly with Dube and Lindholm that year.

If you're going to talk like that you might want to know what you're talking about a bit better. You're talking about a player who had Selke and Hart votes last year as if he was Mike Ribeiro.

Yeah, that's why I was trying to go the retention route (Calgary doing a 1 year on him) because at best, we'd trade Gardiner to dump his 4 million, but he'd probably decline the trade (he has a 7 team no trade list). Even with his long injury, not wanting to go to Calgary right now is understandable.

I don't see us wanting to trade any other player with a contract at or above 4 million. I don't think it'd still work cap space wise even if we traded Gardiner to make some room for Tkachuk if Calgary didn't do a 1 year with retention on Tkachuk (seems like a long shot).

I just think it's funny Vegas keeps getting mentioned of all teams with cap problems, and Carolina is left out of the discussion when we have more cap space than both Vegas and St. Louis (yes, they obviously have connections to Tkachuk; that helps but they still have a hill to climb right now) iirc. and it's known we need more scoring (yeah, getting Patches helps but still).

He had 1 homer vote for the Hart and was tied with David Kampf and noted elite shutdown winger Gaudreau at 3 whole votes for the Selke lol.

Yup. Clagarys clock runs out after the arbitration hearing. Once Matthew signs the contract he cannot be traded for a full year, meaning Calgary can't trade him at the deadline. Its tough situation for Calgary and not many teams can take the cap hit. They almost zero leverage.

I think it’s a game of who blinks first between St.Louis and NJ.
Flames want Kyrou or Bratt and neither team wants to do that right now.
I don’t know the Blues roster well enough to know if they would be better or worse overall if they trade Kyrou for Tkachuk . I’d imagine that Tarasenko would have to go due to the cap situation and would that not leave a big hole in their lineup with Kyrou and Tarasenko gone? Tank also has a NMC so it’s not going to be easy for St.Louis

For NJ and Bratt , I’m not sure that Tkachuk is that much of an upgrade to warrant payimg that much more $ on Tkachuk than Bratt.
Tkachuk fills a need better but not sure if it’s worth the price
