What people forget is that Matt Tkachuk just had his career year. If he accepts his QO and has a shit year next year he’s going to lose potentially 10 million or more. Whether he signs with Stl, or an upcoming team like Detroit, Anaheim or NJ, the incentive he has to sign a long term deal is large. If the flames don’t get a deal they won’t trade him right away. He regobuzes that risk. I guarantee it

New guess is: Necas, Gardiner, Rantaa, 2023 1st, 2024 3rd.

Carolina may need to swap around more salary to fit Tkachuks 1st year.

Necas and a late 1st is a mediocre starting point at best for a 24 year old, 40 goal, 100 point player - never mind adding 6M+ in dead/useless cap space that Calgary is eating just to accommodate the Hurricanes in this situation.

The late 1st alone should be the compensation for eating those contracts. That's 6M+ in real dollars the ownership group would have to eat.

It's a bad offer and only works for one side.

I see how you are looking at this. But look at it this way. He wants to go to a couple teams. So the field is narrowed. Yes he had career year and will make 9 10 mil a year. That is happening regardless. So the heat is on Calgary to get the best deal from a team that can afford him and he will intern sign an extension with at the salary he wants. Look everybody though ror was going to get a haul. The gm waited to long asked for to much then came back to stl for crumbs. I am not saying this is going to happen but it can.

I will say this. Blues management is one of the best at drafting young players. So any prospect you get is quality.

Matthew is 24, not 30. The Tkachuk's have and always will treat the game as a business first. He can finish his career in St. Louis if his heart is set on it. He's going to maximize his earnings capacity while coming off what will likely be his best statistical NHL season. He not going to limit his market to one team.

He comes here and trains with some former blues. One of which is on 101 ESPN. He has said with out saying that ktchuck is coming here and he will take a more team friendly contract. 9 mil for 8 years just to play for the team he grew up with and loves. So basically it's just a matter of time before he signs here. Also like i said before if blue's don't get him we will next year when Ufa.

You’re comparing 61 points in 81 games Ryan O’Reilly who said he was considering retirement before the trade happened. To 104 point Matt Tkachuk…

I'm going to be really fascinated if they do because I think the value comes back lower in trade if so. I don't see a way that they put Kyrou on the table, and I don't view their prospect pool as strong as some of the other teams have that may be in this market.

I could see the Islanders getting in on that type of deal as part of a 3 way trade as well.
Yeah I think if tarasenko was traded for 1st and prospect. Then blues give something like a 1st 2nd prospect not neighbors or bolduc while taking Scannell as well.

Ror, was on a crap team with crap locker room. He is with out a doubt a 1c. I know you guys up there are upset with losing johnny and now matty. Unfortunatley mathew holds the control and calgary is scrambling. I think a 1st prospect and cap dump is the best that calgary gets. Only time will tell

If that were the case Tkachuk would have simply stayed quite, taken his arbitration award, and played out the season. Instead he gave Calgary a list of teams he would be willing to sign with long term in order to facilitate a trade that work for all parties. That suggests to me that you are clinging on to every hope you can to land a hometown superstar for pennies on the dollar.

Calgary could easily trade Tkachuk with retention to any contender in the NHL after his arbitration for significantly more value than you are claiming he's worth. If St. Louis wants to play chicken then by all means stay out the trade talks and cross your fingers he makes it to UFA. You are not getting him for a cap dump and a late 1st. That's ridiculous.

Maybe 8 years from now he goes to St.Louis to finish his career.
Id say St.Louis is of course wantimg Tkachuk and Tkachuk probably prefers the Blues but it’s not up to Tkachuk . If the Blues can’t / won’t give up Kyrou ,then I can’t see them out bidding NJ and Flames 100% take the best deal for them and prefer to trade him East .

Kinda tricky when he is signed already for 7/8 years elsewhere

This assumes Matt Tkachuk will extend with NJD.

He may decide not to sign and just play out his year.....that was my point

It most defiantly is up to Tkachuk. If he gets traded to a team he doesn't want to play for then he doesn't extend. That simple

Matt needs to play to hit ufa. He would be ufa for sure in 2025 but is eligible for it in 2023 so long as he accrued this upcoming season.

Stricklands opinion and take that Tkachuk will be a Blue for the 2023-24 season. Essentially Tkachuk will not extend with anyone but St.Louis . If Calgary and St.Louis cannot make a trade , Tkachuk plays for Calgary until the TDL or full season then goes to St.Louis as a UFA.
I get it from St.Loius’s point of view. No way they can trade Kyrou when they can wait a year and get him for zero assets and when they have cap room.
I have a feeling Tkachuk only wants St.Louis and these other teames on a list where he would sign is BS.

Source on Twitter. They called Neidereiter signing w nashville 24 hrs before insiders reported it, called the Brent Burns return 1 hour before the insiders, and then Pacioretty deal 1 hour before insiders. Must work in the Carolina front office. It’s bizarre.

Person said Carolina is making a hard push. I added the deal could get done today.
If we actually get Tkachuk (still a big if IMO), I'll probably get a jersey of him. I've been overdue to get the newish alternate jersey of ours for a while now (my personal favorite of our jerseys) anyway.

Also, as another Canes fan asked, link?

He no longer has a qualifying offer, now that the team has taken him to arbitration.

It's either whatever deal is struck before the hearing (unlikely with the Flames), or whatever value the decision of the arbitrator deems appropriate (for one year)

Lucic has negative value. 5 mil cap hit for a 4th liner? If you’re adding Detroit’s 2nd then I want Tanev coming back. Not an overpaid bum like Lucic.

Also if you’re adding one of Johansson or Wallinder then subtract Berggren.
