Actually, I remember Bergeron as being very physical. His rookie season he used to throw a reverse hit that drew the ire of more than a few veterans. He became less physical after the concussion.
I would like to rewatch some of the games, to see, if my memory is any good. That was, approximately, a half a lifetime ago.

I admittedly don't follow the CHL like I do NCAA hockey but damn I at least like to think I know who the top prospects are coming up. Where the hell did this kid come from? Specifically developmentally, was he a late bloomer? Did something in his game take a big jump? Impressive breakaway speed last night and I love the intensity he shows out there. He might end up being someone who isn't elite in any one area but does a lot of things well. Tough not to get excited even after only a few games. What is the best NHL comp for him?

Covid impacted a lot of kids his age in the OHA. Basically lost a year of development.

I don't understand why they can't change the draft age back to 20. I read it was taken to court but if the PA and League negotiate it how can it be ruled illegal. They negotiate
FA, so why is that legal and not the draft age?

This made me chuckle - saw it on Twitter:

I swear you guys told me poitras isn’t fast . He looks fast to me. I must be crazy. He looks faster than Bergeron and krecji. Granted he is 19 and Bergeron is an old man. But even when Bergeron joined the league he didn’t look this fast.

Bergeron and Krejci were never fast but both had great IQ and playmaking, stickskills.

#51 bhas has absolutely the best skating stride of the three. His stride is very fluid, more so than either 46\37.

You are welcome to disagree but I watch their practices. I coach and so I go there to learn.

Cassidy changed from Julien’s 5man breakout to two wingers flying the zone as soon as we got possession in the Dzone. He wanted stretch passes and if they were closed off he relied on 2D and the C to break it out low.

Monty tweaked this but he still has 2 guys fly the zone. He keeps one W in the zone and has the backside W fly and the C get up ice as well. He uses the backside D in front of the net as the “C” coming up the middle of the Dzone with the puck. They haven’t been super clean executing this and it’s led to some bad turnovers but that’s what they do when they practice their breakouts.
i appreciate this perspective very much. Geekie is a good example of how this is coached. I watched him fly the zone last night many times. he's a well positioned player and its fun to watch.

He ended Vrbata and Fedetenko's season in a span of a few weeks when he was a rookie. Clean reverse checks along the board that looked so innocuous at the time. Yes, I remember random shit I shouldnt lol.

I think he's fast in that he makes quick decisions and plays a fast game because he is smart. He's a good skater, turns well and is quick with the puck,

His overall skill set reminds me of a lot of really good/great NHL players that I have seen. Doug Gilmour comes to mind when I see those some of those cut backs and strong, smart plays around the ice. I do think he has that Bergeron high IQ, and good positioning, but I actually see a different player. A little more flash to his game. Marchand made a pretty good comp. for his era with Marner. But Poitras is also playing center right away, something Bergeron didn't even do.

It's going to get interesting as the competition improves and the marathon days arrive.

Always interesting to read the first 5 or 6 pages of prospect threads, seeing reactions of Bs fans at the time players were drafted. This thread is no exception.

Pretty wild how fast this kid's trajectory changed. Would have saved people a lot of time in their posting over the summer about trading for top 6 centers if Poitras had let us know he was ready to shock everyone and make the jump well before schedule.

Love what I am seeing, am super excited about it and agree he should stay

but....

lets not start the comparisons with one of the Bruins all time greats until we get a bigger sample size eh?
Don Sweeney has not drafted/developed a scoring line center...ever? We're all in shock

Surprisingly this thread was relatively positive off the start compared to some gems like DeBust, Lohrei, Pelosi, Frederic, Beecher, etc.
