He did what very few people were expecting, earned a spot despite significant competition from several NHL journeymen.

Do I see him as Bergeron? Nope. I do see him as a energetic kid that is working his behind off every shift and producing on every line he is on. The one comparison I would make is to Krejci. Both of them always seemed to be at the right place at the right time. That screams of a hockey sense that some of our failed prospects have lacked.

It is the perfect time for him to break out too since we had the 1 and 1a of Berggy and Krejci last year. He saw the opening and has taken it.

Why do we need to compare him to players. He is himself. Light on the weight but good vision and skills. He’ll get his nine games and then we’ll see how his stamina is. I don’t think they have anyone better to center a line. He might stay due to this.
We are looking at attributes - Pang & Burke were drawing similarities of Wil Cuylle of Rangers last night to Tom Wilson

The Pelosi to Leafs Matt Kneis already starting up

Even Poiteas picked characteristics of Point & Cirelli

But they're not Jack, who will be comparing Poitras to Gretzky soon enough.

I see a lot of non Bruins fans on the interwebs saying the Kid reminds them of Claude Giroux.

fwiw
Well something is sure, the kid knows how to play hockey well.... and reminds people of Claude Giroux, patrice Bergeron, Pavel D, Marc Savard, a bit of Point and Cirelli.... etc.... kind of funny imo. Why not just be happy him being Poitras! I hope the kid is a futur HoF and will help Bruins having another 15 years of great hockey!

The more I think about it and had a good 10 year run of never missing a home game live and that was Oates time here - I’m going with Adam Oates comp

Savard absolutely works but he wasn’t the grittiest or a strong defender but Oates was
Oates was undrafted because of his size and skating

He signed with Detroit but spent that summer taking power skating from Paul Vincent in Beverly and I think living there

Poiteas probably a better skater - Oates was probably 22 or so when broke into nhl as arguably the greatest college FA

I’m going here folks!!!

When the Bruins suck they will have a top 5 Farm again

When you are good GM want to keep being good because if you are good you make a lot of Mikey and avoid being fired which can turn your life and family upside down

So draft picks are going to be used for trades to stay on top like we saw with picks moved for Nash, Bertuzzi, Orlov, Hall, Lindholm, Coyle, Johansson etc

When you do pick if your good it’s late and Bruins since 2007 have most points and overall worst draft spot

The good news is there is a hard cap and only 6 spots in a top 6 so you can’t horde

The LAK sucked basically for 7-8 years and have occupied as high as one on Draft ratings - yet from 2016-19 where players are coming off ELC they waived several last week and the crap assed Bruins in retrospect outdrafted them 2916-19

So it’s nice to be top 7 those four years for LA and Boston bottom of the barrel but somehow even after Boston traded 10 picks many high to stay on top they still got a better yield

Bruins fans basically don’t know this - they know 2015 draft they took Senyshyn over Barzal (who’s a nice perimeter player who would be called Betty Barzal by now by Bruins Fans)
Yeah I’m not really criticizing them, I just think they’re correctly ranked for the most part, maybe a few spots higher but not much. It’s not necessarily an indictment on their drafting more just where they’ve been picking. Yes their drafting could have been better at times, but all it really takes for this team is to hit every now and then(like potentially Poitras), fill in some depth spots in your roster and you’re good in my book.

I dont care about comparing Poitras to anything. He looks like a current legitimate 2C in the NHL, lets see what 10 games looks like in the real deal. Great to see him develop regardless. Dom jumped on his train long ago. Im happy to board now.
Smart approach. Kid must have something going for him given the range of players people around the internet are comparing him to. Some of the comparisons I can clearly see, while others are a reach. Kind of like I can understand when people compare Greta Van Fleet to Led Zeppelin, but if someone compared them to Rick Astley I would be left scratching my head.

Watched interview with him yesterday and he seems like he has that it factor. He was calm and well spoken and reminds me of a young Krecji on the ice.If he could be what David was it sure would speed up things around here in this mini reset.

I view the comparisons as more of a style of play, and not necessarily the potential career projection. He’s a smaller skilled player with good hands, not overly speedy, solid vision, whom puts the effort in his 200’ game.

If Bergeron and Krejci had elected to return this year, do you think we'd be making room for Poitras on the roster? Or would it be "great camp kid, but there's no room for you down the middle, so we're sending you back to the OHL. See you next year."

Yes!

I’m glad people are excited about this player.

Love that, I’m as big a Giroux fan as I can be considering he’ll always be a Flyer to me.
I hate Claude Giroux! But he is a good player so if Poitras comes down as a Claude Giroux, I'm fine with that!

I think they highly consider putting him on Bergerons RW...what better way to learn how to play center without the pressure of being center?

Wouldn't he be better off, then, watching him from the bench? Tough to pay attention to what your centre mentor is doing when you're battling for the puck along the boards. Plus, while he's watching Patrice for pointers, he might get steamrolled.

Most likely not, but you never know. Id bet he would be sent down but there’s so many variables it’s hard to tell.

I hope we get to watch him all season and he plays well. Quite the trajectory he is on
