Poitras staying with the B's. No WJC, roster just released
Definitely the right call, he's right where he belongsPoitras staying with the B's. No WJC, roster just released

That wouldn't be a bad thing at all. The season is long and heavy, especially for 18-19 year olds.I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a few scratches mixed in here or there and Geekie getting some C reps.

I don't think it is official? Previously NHL players don't get invited to the camp and aren't listed.Poitras staying with the B's. No WJC, roster just released
Absolutely. Easy coaching to go hard on the rookie.Any else annoyed with Monty’s handling of Poitras yet?
Thought this was a major factor in moving on from Bruce and hiring Monty, more patience with youth.Absolutely. Easy coaching to go hard on the rookie.
He's been a good coach in this regard. Portais treatment tonight was weird: 1 primary assists, +1 and 60% faceoffs ... and 8mins.Thought this was a major factor in moving on from Bruce and hiring Monty, more patience with youth.

Communication is seemingly better that’s true, but I think his handling of Poitras has been pretty poor. I get he’s worried about closing out games but consistently burying the kid every 3rd period in tight games, even when he’s playing well, just seems fear based and putting off a problem that they need to address. If a coach thinks a rookie is struggling and needs to shelter him, he should.
The major difference between Cassidy and Monty seems to be communication. It's been reported that some players who ended up in the Cassidy doghouse would never hear from the coach on what they needed to do. Blidh pretty much confirmed that. Conversly, Beecher just went thru a game where he was a healthy scratch and when asked, said Monty took him into his office and they had a discussion on the things he feels Beecher needs to work on and the direction his game needs to go towards. I get the impression that both Monty and Cassidy have high standards when it comes to young players but that Monty has the better interpersonal skills to teach them
I don't agree with either benching, but so far I think Monty has been good coach for the young kids.

Monty's not the one over thinking things. Just saying!Yes, just posted about this in the PGT before I saw your comments. Agree 100%, not a fan of some of how Monty's handling Poitras, and to an extent Beecher too.
Not a fan (anymore after '23 playoffs) but I wonder if Butch would've kept 2-3 rookies on the team as Monty has this year? Maybe he was forced to? Like Cassidy, he also doesn't seem to have the testicular fortitude to bench veterans as he would rookies. Or to tell veterans in the SCP to sit out games when they say they're ready or to pull an obviously injured goaltender when he's stinking the joint out. IMO, this spring will shine a huge spotlight on him.If a coach thinks a rookie is struggling and needs to shelter him, he should.

It would annoy me less if the "tried and true" vets that Monty keeps going with in the third hadn't blown multiple third period leads already, and still continue to get full diapers whenever the other team pulls their goalie.Any else annoyed with Monty’s handling of Poitras yet?

You can’t have a 3c on your roster that you don’t trust in close games, you need to either learn to trust him as he works thru the mistakes or you don’t dress him. It’s crazy to shorten the bench everytime the team is in that situation, especially when games get more important, it puts more on the rest of the team.
I will never get on board with Monty after last years collapse, No coming back from that. Not a fan (anymore after '23 playoffs) but I wonder if Butch would've kept 2-3 rookies on the team as Monty has this year? 26 games in and Monty had already bag skated the group, called out individual players in the press and pulled Swayman after giving up a couple of goals, now he's going after the low hanging fruit (kids)
Someone's feeling pressure
