I'm saying it now. Smith-pellly is a big part of this team going forward. I don't think people realize how much potential this guy has. It's the confidence factor and whether he can bring it every night that's in question. Oh and obviously he will never always be at this pace lol.

25% of his career goals have been scored in New Jersey.

All the more reason to love the trade. We rejuvenated his career. And if you watch the guy play he's so clearly more than a 4th line turd. He's been very very impressive in just about every way.

We needed some bottom 6 garbage men (meaning guys that can get in front and score some garbage goals).

We haven't had someone who could do stuff like that legit since Clarkson left. If DSP can fill that role then I'm fine for that. Every team needs a guy that can chip in those goals to succeed.

Not even just scoring his goals, but I like how strong, quick, and aware DSP is in front of the net.

On his goal tonight, his initial backhand got stopped, he hit it out of midair into the post, and then beat three defenders to the puck on the post. He's strong on his skates and hard to move out of the front of the net. I doubt this run is sustainable, but this team could definitely use a guy like that.

He's going to find a useful spot on this team as a net-front presence, no matter what line he ends up playing on. Clarkson filled that role for a while, then Bernier last year, and now DSP.

What does Matteau have in MTL? 1 assist in 8 games and 0 goals or something like that?

1 assist in 7 games, and has already been a healthy scratch. Habs board seems to think he's terrible like we did.

You have to understand that Matteau's 3.8% shooting percentage this is very unsustainable. And his 5.4% in his career.

Sooner or later, the dam will break for him. I'm very confident of that.

I took this picture at a bar in NJ. Do Rangers fans know how to spell their Matteau's name? Or is this Montreal's Stefan Matteau? :shakehead

And he is young and cheap. Nice to fill that bottom 6 RW role like that.

thats assuming he gets played with good teammates in good situations, or played at all. despite how grossly low that shot % is, if you're not playing, that dam will never get a chance to break

I was being sarcastic about the whole thing.

I don't think the dam will ever break, he sucks badly

And his development was also tampered/ruined/whatever. But I still don't think he would have been anything special.

13 goals this season, sadly he'd be third on our team in goalscoring by a mile if he was here the whole year. He may get to third anyway if he can put up another 5-6 goals somehow, just counting his Devils total. His whole season total is one behind Cammalleri for third on the team.

Definitely a big strong guy and looks like he is solid in front of the net. But he is not quick...hes slow lets be honest.

I like him though so far, if he can fill the role Clarkson had being a productive 3rd liner who produces on the PP, great.
